A great portable, flexible and affordable option
The Xtool IP608 is a formidable above entry-level scan tool in my opinion. I travel quite a bit, and I need a scanner that is portable and does not have a bunch of attachments. One that I can carry in my bag or backpack and would allow me to perform basic to advanced functions as well. This device fits the criteria. One thing to understand about OBDII scanners is that they can only support the functions that a given vehicle has been set up to provide data for. Vehicles that were built prior to (2003) do not offer certain data to a scanner automatically, such as (VIN), and/mileage, and so this information may need to be entered manually, for vehicle identification, and/or to be included in a report. This is not a problem that is inherent with the scanner, it is just a limitation based on what the vehicles electronic control module (ECM) offers. Those who may not know this, may think that something is wrong with the scanner. That is not the case. Another point to understand is that each vehicle offers a unique set of data and that not all functions of (any) scanner are supported by all vehicles. The trick is to find a scanner that supports the functions you require for a given vehicle. The best way to know is to contact Xtool and ask if the scanner supports a given function for your vehicle. This is why pre-sales along with after-purchase and choosing the right seller is very important. As I mentioned, it may be that your vehicle simply does not provide that data! For example, not all vehicles support “oil reset”, and all vehicles do not offer Stop/Start. Even some newer vehicles! This seller is very responsive to answering questions, both before and after sales. The first step to using this device is to activate it. This process is straight forward and seamless. It supports (5g) wifi, which is a good thing. 5g offers faster data transfer, but (2.4g) provides greater distance from the router. Prior to activating the device, you can initiate a trial mode. This allows you to try it out before activating it. I noticed that in comparison to some other devices that I have used, the IP608 has a higher-resolution screen that is sharp and a decent size. When I first turned it on it had (126) updates. This company is actively providing new updates for the multiple vehicles it supports on a regular basis. These include updates for new and older vehicles. Another huge benefit of purchasing this product is that it offers (cost-free) updates. This is a very important feature that enhances the affordability factor! I was able to scan and clear codes that appeared on two Lexus’s and on a Mercedes. The IP608 alerted me to a (passenger-side air conditioner solar sensor) issue with one of my Lexus’s that I was not aware of. This is a manufacturer code, for which check engine lights do not appear! The IP608 allows you to save and also email the report as well. Xtool also offers a neat look up feature that connects you directly to the internet, for which you can search the code, what it means, and common causes. It also provides Special Services. One of the services that I was most interested in is the (Start/Stop Reset) functionality. This is huge for those who want to deactivate the feature that many newer vehicles offer to supposedly save fuel. But many prefer to deactivate the feature, and some dealerships refuse to do so, as has been reported. I am happy to report that I was able to successfully access that feature for the Mercedes (m278) v8 bi-turbo engine. I have found Xtool’s (IP608) to be a great option for anyone who needs compact portability but can still access many common Special Functions. It’s also great option for anyone who cannot afford or justify purchasing a higher-end model, or do not plan to use any programming or coding features available in Xtool’s more advanced devices. If you decide to purchase an Xtool product, be sure to purchase from this official seller. They offer tier-1 technical support, and this is very important, as they have direct contact with the manufacturer and developers and can quickly address questions or resolve any issues. This has been my experience. Sellers on other platforms or websites do not offer this level of pre, or after sales service and may not be authorized resellers. I personally would not take a chance.

It doesn't support what it claims to support
Seems to be adequate, but is missing functionality that I had purchased it for. I was looking for the EPB reset to allow me to replace the breaks on the 2022 Bronco, this thing does not have that functionality. It may be released in the future, but that seems to be the case for a lot of the vehicles that it claims to support. IMHO, if you REALLY need something like this, you really need to get a different one. This is probably ok for a home mechanic, but the missing functionality is really going to be an issue for a lot of people.

Great scanner at an affordable price! Luv the IP608 by XTOOL
This is not my first purchase with XTOOL. Luv this company, the brand, and especially the technical support. You always receive an answer to your question the very next day. I’ve owned the A30D for 3 years now and the A20 for 1.5 yrs. I continue to utilize both tools to this day without fail. These scanners have paid for themselves multiple times over. As far as the IP608, I plan to post a full review on DOITYOURWAY Corner, but for now, I will try to provide a brief summary. The scanner comes with a USB cable for charging, the cable utilized to interface with your diagnostic connector, and a power supply adaptor for use inside and outside of the USA. The device when powered up and loaded communicates fairly quickly with the car or truck depending on your CAN BUS speed. The main splash screen shows all features available with the scanner providing your vehicle supports it. Menus include Special functions, Auto Scan, Diagnostic, Updates, Global Settings for the scanner, “Report” this accesses saved scans or tests, and Remote Control. I tested 2 vehicles: 2009 Ford Escape. 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 Tradesman. As long as you utilize the 12+8 cable to bypass the SGW (Security Gate Module), you can connect to the 2019 Ram 1500. Thanks to XTOOL technical support for assisting with this. Once connected, I was able to scan almost all computer modules: BCM, PCM, Electronic Steering Module, Integrated Center Stack, Occupant Restraint, Radio, ABS, and many more. Once I completed the scan, I found some failure codes and was able to clear them. I was also able to perform some functional tests. This is typically not possible with lower end scan tools. I then tested it with the Escape. Ford allowed much more access to the CAN BUS and active testing. As side from the normal diagnostic scans, I was able to see live data (I could also with 2019 Ram) for many PIDs. I decided to perform some functional testing, from the screens shots you can see that I was able to test the directional lamps and view the keyless entry access code. I provided some screenshots to show the other functions that maybe of interest. All in all a great scanner at an affordable price. I’m looking forward to using this scanner more and more.
