So practical ... so fun to read
I bought this book as a gift for my son who is new to fly fishing. He loved the practical tips AND the fun-to-read examples. His father-in-law -- a lifelong fisherman -- kept borrowing the book so much that I got him a copy, too. This is a really nice, conversational book. It is packed with illustrations and photos on just about everything you'd want to know about fly fishing. Reading it, you come away with really ingenious ways to stay comfortable in cold/hot/windy weather ... get the right equipment and flies ... make a cast, land a fish, and more. It's the kind of book you browse cover to cover then keep handy forever!

Vital to the seasoned and the new angler alike.
Ed Quigley has written an accurate practical guide to the sport of fly fishing. As an owner of a fly shop I have many customers looking to take up fly fishing and to learn its intricacies, this is the perfect book for that person. It is ideal for the new angler, and is a great read for the intermediate and advanced angler as well. This would be a great gift for your favorite angler or for yourself. From knots, to insects, to help with gear selection, this book is an asset to the fly fishers library.

Fly Fishing
Lots of amusing anecdotes and lots of great information. Written like you are in the same room or standing next to Ed in a trout stream.

Fly fishing from an old timer
Great book with enormous amount of info. Why however do you advertise that if one buys a book one gets others FREE and that has never happened.

Very iformative
A wonderful guide to anyone who is just getting into fly fishing (such as myself). I'm not very fond of the format as I would rather see it divided into topical sections rather than alphabetical sequence but I love the way Mr. Quigley described many of the terms with colorful comments that are helpful in the explanations of whatever he is describing. This will be a good reference book in the future as I get more into fly fishing. I'm a traditional bass fisherman, with a whole room full of bait casting and spinning gear, that "has seen the light and is coming over from the dark side" as I was told from a very helpful Cabela's fly shop sales associate. I plan on spending a lot of time learning how to fly fish for trout. It will take a lot of practice but I do enjoy a good challenge and this book is an excellent resource. Thank you Ed Quigley.

iUniverse Kindle Edition is wanting
The content of this book was quite good, and it made for an enjoyable read. There is a good bit of fly fishing history in the book, which some may find interesting, but which doesn't really apply to those who are looking only to glean fishing tips. It is easy enough to skim through these passages if history is not your cup of tea; I found most of them reasonably interesting. The book also contains some great illustrations and photographs that do a lot to supplement the text. Overall, I'd give the content of the book a solid 4.5 stars.*** Please note that the following observation applies ONLY to the iUniverse Kindle edition of this book ***Unfortunately, the quality of the Kindle edition knocks this book down a star. Most notably, the footnotes are not properly implemented, and show up inline with the text, but a few pages after the footnote number appears. Therefore, when you see a randomly placed numeral at the end of a word, you know that at some point in the next few pages you can expect a paragraph or two to appear in the middle of the text. When it appears it is only delineated by a carriage return, shares the same font as the rest of the text, and often injects itself in the middle of a paragraph, which is all extremely annoying.

Fly Fishing Advice From an Old Timer
For me this is a reference book I read it several years ago and it got me started fishing nymphs. I like it because it is not dogmatic. I tend to be a creative fly tier. I make up my own patterns on a whim and get a lot of enjoyment from seeing what works. It is a vicarious fishing adventure each time I pick it up.
