A+ egg poacher!
After a half-century creating culinary masterpieces and almost as many equally impressively terrible dishes, I learned long ago that single-purpose cookware is almost always a waste of money. The ‘hot doggers.’ The mini-waffle makers. The “As-seen-on-TV” rotisseries. And the Make-a-bacon-basket-in-your-microwave and other contraptions. The most notable and fun were gifted from loved ones at Christmas and birthdays, and we’re grateful they even thought of us. But their novelty wore out quickly and just took up valuable kitchen and pantry space. But sometimes we actually need single-purpose cookware to do a fundamental job right every time. A good egg poacher is one. I’ve been poaching ‘the hard way,’ making tornados, for decades, but frankly, the technique has become such a pain in the neck because I can only do one egg at a time (impractical when entertaining) and my success rate isn’t high. Dedicated egg poachers like this product save so much hassle and have close to perfect results every time. Too, they can be used to hardboil without the tedious task of ice baths and de-shelling afterward. So I purchased the Eggssentials 6-egg poacher. Go big or go home, right? It’s very well made. The pan base is substantial weight, like better cookware is. The clear glass lid is vented (and tempered?). The insert is lighter weight and has non-sharp edges. The cups are big enough for my jumbo and extra-large eggs, and because they’re almost semi-spherically shaped, so the heavy egg yolks center in the middle of the white every time. I debuted the Eggssentials on a half dozen fresh extra-large eggs. I don’t like ‘cooking spray,’ so just used three drops of Grazo ‘Sizzling’ EVOO to grease all 6 cups with my finger. Then, I drained off each egg’s thin fluid using a fine mesh sieve, and plopped the egg into a ramekin. It’s important to do seive, because the fluid is superfluous and WILL impact your results. I seasoned and swirled each egg around to distribute the spices, and dropped it into a pan cup. Once the cups were filled and my pan’s water was solidly simmering, I inserted the insert, poached for 5 minutes under the lid, and checked. Several eggs weren’t as done as others, and it was because I hadn’t seived enough of their fluid off. So I let the entire rack poach for another minute. My eggs turned out almost great, but the well-drained eggs were more done than the watery ones. Next time, I’ll use a less-fine mesh to drain every egg better and equally beforehand Cleanup was trivial, and I hand-washed every part with a soft scrubber even though I have a great dishwasher. That said, I know this Eggssentials pan is a winner!

This is the best egg poacher I have ever had.
I have had egg poachers in the past that all of the egg holder were molded into one unit. So, to get each egg out, I had to be careful that the others didn't fall out at the same time. I love that this one has individual cups that can be removed one at a time with the little handles. Although I don't always need to poach 6 eggs at a time, I bought the 6 egg cooker because you can easily cook from 1-6 eggs as you need them. I also appreciate that the pan is a heavy duty stainless steel, and can be used on an induction cooktop that requires a magnetic metal for use. The glass cover makes it so easy to monitor the progress of the eggs cooking. I do use Pam to coat the egg holders, and the egg slip right out with no sticking. In addition, each egg cup holder has a handle so the cooked eggs can be removed from the pan at one time. When not using this cooker for poaching eggs, you also have a high quality 10" stainless steel pan for cooking other foods. This helps to justify the storage space. UPDATE 01/05/20: I have had this egg poacher for about 8 months, and have found more uses for it that come in very handy. My 99 year old mother moved in with us 8 years ago, and my husband has the morning shift with her. Since he doesn't cook, I try to supply breakfasts for her that he can easily warm for her. I make 6 eggs leaving the yolks soft, and freeze them on a tray before putting them into a baggie. When my husband warms them for my mother in the microwave on a low power for 1 1/2 minutes, the eggs still have soft yolks and are as good as if just made. He usually serves them to her with a Belgian waffle that I make ahead and freeze, and needs only to heat them in the toaster. I also make egg bites in this egg poacher. You need only to beat the eggs, put them into the egg cups, and top them with cooked chopped green peppers, cooked chopped onions, and a little shredded cheese. Any kind of chopped veggies or cooked breakfast meats would also be great additions to these egg bites. These are so easy and a breakfast treat for my mother. I highly recommend this poached egg maker for the ease of use for poaching eggs and also for the versatility in using it as a pan for other foods. I hope this review was helpful for you and will update this review if my opinion changes.

Decent quality, cooks well, cleans easily
I will try to address some of the negative remarks from other reviewers. First, some were complaining that the lid doesn't fit, it DOES fit if you put all the egg cup handles in the center of the pan. Second, non stick trouble, I have always put a little bit of butter in my egg cups (on my old poacher because it was aluminum, pic included) and I like the buttery taste, so I did that with these and the eggs slid right out into my bowl. Third, the residue left in bottom of pan, Yes, I did have a few little spots but it in no way affects the eggs so is of little consequence to me. This poacher increased my egg capacity x2 and I am loving it! I cooked the eggs for about 9 minutes because I don't like them too runny, but I could have probably taken them out after 8 minutes. My mom used to make us kids poached eggs when we were ill and to me it is a comfort food, chopped up with salt, pepper & butter. The pic of the old poacher is one of two she used during my childhood and is the one I am replacing now for larger capacity (although I will still keep it, it's at least 58 years old!) My only eyebrow raiser with this product is how it was packaged by the company, just wrapped in a plastic bag with a cardboard insert for the egg cups and lid, and then just slid into the box with no other packaging around the product. I can see how some of them came damaged, mine arrived fine. I kinda laughed at how the egg cup handles are attached with little screws and not molded onto the cup, which is why I rated the quality at "decent", but it works. All in all it's a product that will get a lot of use in our home.

I was looking for a small idly steamer and came across this egg poacher. It's perfectly suited for idly steaming. The pan is easy to handle and easy to clean. Lightly oiled, the fluffy idlies come out of the cups effortlessly, especially while using the included silicone spatula. I'm really happy with this purchase!

I like to have poached eggs for breakfast often, I have been using microwave egg poachers for a while which work OK but are a bit difficult to consistently achieve the desired 'sweet spot' of poached eggs with firm whites and runny, creamy yolks. Since using this pan for the past week I've found that I'm getting perfectly cooked eggs each time by following the instructions included (see attached image). If you like eggs with firmer yolks, you can just leave them in the pan for longer. The pan is easy to use, easy to clean, and the eggs can be removed easily from the cups using the included silicone spatula. Its looks and feels like a high quality piece of kit. While the £40 price tag might seem steep, in my opinion it's worth it for a high quality item that I will use almost every day.
