SAUDER Office Port Library Base, Dark Alder finish

For starters, this is an absolutely beautiful cabinet. The picture really doesn't do it justice. Once I opened the box, I was taken back by how stunning the wood looked. It literally glows. As I started putting it together, I noticed something quite ironic, yet something I have heard since I was a child, "Looks can be deceiving". This is what Sauder does very well. They can make a beautiful product, but the quality doesn't live up to the appearance. Sort of like the Ford cars of cabinet making. The press wood is sturdy but is rather soft. But I guess why the price is pretty reasonable for something that looks like this. However, in spite of this, this is still an amazing piece of furniture. The instructions were rather simple, and doesn't take long to put together, but like others have mentioned, the handles leave a lot to be desired. From a distance, they look fine and could even pass for metal, but with how great the wood looks, it would behoove Sauder to include a higher quality handle. Even still, if you are trying to choose between the Office Port series and another, this one brings a level of sophistication and elegance to any office or room, without paying a bundle.

I am very pleased with this piece of furniture. The quality is good, it went together well, and it looks really nice when completed. I will be looking at this brand the next time I am looking for value furniture. This holds an HP Office Jet printer with a little room to spare, and excellent storage inside the cabinet.

I love the size of this. It's going to really come in handy, has a lot of storage space and the color matches our expensive office furniture. It was very easy to put together-- took about 2 hours. I do have 2 problems with it though. 1. The top has some scratches in it. We put it together on new carpet. Nothing has been placed on it. I believe it arrived in this condition. 2. When putting the screw through the door hinge/ into the door, the wood just crumbled. The door won't hang straight because I can't get that screw tight. It's a shame because it could look nice but it's not going to meet my expectations because of those 2 issues. I'd like to give it 2.5 stars but that's not an option.

Purchased two hutch units along with three library cabinets from Amazon. The units came very well packed with bumper guards on the box corners and wrapped in shrinkwrap. Assembly was fast, parts were all there, and the instructions were complete. Fit and finish left a bit to be desired though and this is the first time I've ever been disappointed in Sauder products. The dark finish against the lighter particle board color highlighted slight edge mismatches. Same to be said for the dark edges against a lighter finished edge on melamine joints. A number of the pieces had blemishes, scratches, and chips, and a couple even had cracked (although once assembled these cracked areas were somewhat supported so I didn't bother returning the items.) IMPORTANT TIP: Do yourself a favor and purchase a Minwax Stain Pen in Dark Walnut. Run the pen along any unfinished particle board edges and also on melamine joints. It does wonders to hide the poor fit and finish, and any scratches and chips. Also, I bought these from Amazon and bought the matching desk and lateral file from Office Depot. Office Depot's pricing was way out of whack. They had the hutch ON SALE for $139, down from a stated MSRP of $159. Sauder.com had the MSRP listed at $85! The library cabinet pricing was similar, but Amazon was a little more expensive for the desk and lateral file. Check those prices people!

Love my products. Very heavy and durable. The color is excellent it matches everything in my living room. Except for one thing just realized I’m missing a shelf in one of the cabinets. I decided to put things in it today and discovered no shelf. I had the product for a couple months.

I’m an older single woman and have put together a lot of furniture pieces over time. This product took the most time and effort to assemble of any furniture ... however the instructions were the most thorough. I was able to assemble it on my own, but you have to be clever about it. Overall the quality is a POS. The veneer does not meet at the seams/edges, the MDF is really heavy and low quality. It flakes easily and chips apart during construction. The magnetic door catches work well and I don’t mind the plastic handles. It is really too heavy. If you don’t look closely it looks beautiful in my office. I wish I hadn’t bought it. I’m sure there are better pieces for about the same cost and effort.

This was poor quality in every way. I would not purchase this brand again. came with scratches pieces did not fit well together and everything was particle board and very thin photo finish.

Wonderful unit! The doors are even and swing well and the finish is lovely. It was quick and easy to assemble with clear and concise instructions. This looks lovely with the rest of the set and the cord management grommet is very handy. There are also cord management punch out holes in the back of the unit so that each shelf behind the doors could hold electronic equipment if desired.

Even though this unit is constructed of particle board and veneer, don't let that stop you if you are looking for a nice cabinet for your office. Because of some smart design choices and attention to detail, this piece looks more expensive than it is. The veneer looks great, too, and appears as though it is durable. This unit is made for an office, so there is a hole in the top to feed cables through, and there are punch out holes in the back as well. What I like most about it, is that it is very deep, so despite it's appearance, you can put a lot of stuff in it.
