Knitting For Dummies

First things first, this book covers loads of topics - it's a very comprehensive knitting reference. There's enough material to get you knitting different types of stitches, although I learned more about the practical techniques from the handful of short online videos included than I did from the limited illustrations in the book.But - it's not a knitting course for beginners. I managed to knit most of a scarf using moss stitch, but went wrong and could not work out how to fix it by ripping out stitches to the point of my mistake from the illustrations. I'm still smarting from losing hours of work.The book will get you started on the basics, and experienced knitters will value it as a reference book. I've definitely learned how to knit from this book, but not what to do when I make a mistake, making the learning experience very frustrating really. I think an online video course would be more helpful for me, with this book as a reference.

Although a Christmas present for someone I did flick through it and seemed easy to understand and ideal for beginners.

I am determined to knit myself a jumper and this book has been a huge help. It is easy to read and the explanations are useful with good illustrations. I would recomend this to anyone wanting to take up knitting.

not third edition I was hoping for but a very interesting and informative book nonetheless, I love the "dummies" books

Given as a Xmas present to my daughter-in-law who has found it very useful. She has recently taken up knitting again after not touching it for years and has found all the answers to her queries in this book
