Contagion (Blu-ray + DVD) [Region Free]

The steelbook. OK it’s not the most amazing artwork, but I think I captures the spirit of the movie quite well. The image. Some people say Contagion was shot on film, but most sources agree it was a Red One MX digital and the results can be seen in 4K. Contagion was, according to Soderbergh, meant to be ultra-realistic, so we don’t have the dramatic visuals of a Michael Bay action film, but 4K and HDR make the most of scenes in homes, offices and labs. The biggest disappointment is the audio, not a huge deal for a reasonably priced 4k steelbook, but for some an Atmos soundtrack would have been a bonus. I’m not marking it down because Contagion is a character and dialogue driven movie, you could argue Atmos isn’t necessary.The plot. Does life imitate art? Would the world (with the exception of countries like Sweden) have locked down healthy people for a virus that for the vast majority of people was less of an inconvenience than the common cold? A bizarre media circus where outlets focussed on death, and people on ventilators in artificial comas, ignoring people like me who had a sore throat and muscle aches for a few days. Some people apparently weren’t keen on the social media conspiracy theory angle, but social media didn’t have the hold it has now when the film was released. If anything it wasn’t crazy enough, with 5G cell towers, microchip implants, rewritten DNA, ivermectin and chloroquine ‘cures’. It seems they weren’t far off when it came to vaccine production, but they were way off on the ‘single dose and you’re immune’ conclusion. enough. I can only imagine, if there’s the rumoured (philosophical) Contagion sequel what treats we have in store.So, if you haven’t seen this movie, unless you exclusively watch popcorn action films, stream it or buy it. If you have a 4K disc player and/or collect steelbooks, then what are you waiting for?

This movie had a really good cast of actors that I like. Laurence Fishburne, Matt Damon and Jude Law to name a few. This was a good strong cast with a good strong plot and story.We start with a lady coming home from Hong Kong and getting sick and dying, before her son also dies of an virus. At the autopsy, they look at her brain and the lead doctor tells his colleague to back away from the table. Having not seen the brain, this instantly makes you think, what is it? what do you see? whats happening? how bad can this be?.The story progresses through a few cases of the illness which all result in death and the CDC and WHO getting involved trying to track down the original infection location to try and figure out what it is and how it is transmitted. We go through finding out what it is and how it works and the fact it is very deadly. The virus spreads around the world quickly and leaves a wake of death in its path. In the background the health organizations are trying to create a vaccine while in the foreground the conspiracy theorists try to say its being allowed to run amok so the pharmaceutical companies can make more money. People return to their base instincts to look out for themselves and savagely beat or even kill those who stand between themselves and their loot, whether it be food, medicines or that brand new plasma screen TV they had their eye on in the local store... any and every excuse to help themselves. Basically mankind becomes man not so kind.Eventually a vaccine is formulated but because of the massive number of infections, the supply can in no way meet the demand so a fair system has to be implemented to deploy the vaccine to the public.That is the base story-line here. You wont find any graphic violence, very little in fact, there is no horrendous and graphic death scenes with the victims of the virus. This is a good honest story of what could happen in the event of a global outbreak of a very dangerous disease and from watching this, I feel its very true to life as to how people would react in the situation. Some parts of this were quite slow but overall it flowed quite nicely. The movie actually opened up with a caption saying "Day 2" which did make me wonder, and at the end we got maybe a 60 second compilation of video clips showing how the infection started labeled "Day 1". At this point however, I found myself uninterested in a few pointless and uninteresting seconds explaining this detail they never figured out in the actual movie. Day 1 felt more like the writers thought... oh hang on, we better make a little 1 minute prequel to the movie and tag it on at the end because we forgot to show it in the actual movie itself.I would categorize this as a good interesting drama, one to turn on the fire and crash on the couch with a hot drink and some nibbles before bed. This is definitely worth a watch

I was going to start this review by saying call me a masochistic sick bloke but I watched this during the Covid 19 crises. However, a very quick look down other reviewers and I notice there's a lot of people watching this during the pandemic. With this is mind the first hour of the movie is fairly accurate which is good for a film which you think would date when reality mirrors fiction. It is also a reasonably good film. Not sure it needed all the big names because none had to stretch themselves not that this fact denigrates them or the film.As for being able to rate the movie it is difficult knowing what we do now. Does this mean the story seems more dramatic because we are living through it or less because real life is much more dramatic and frightening than any story. My feeling is the film lack a dramatic punch or a lot of drive. Maybe Coronavirus has desensitised me but I didn't feel any great concern for the health or welfare to any of the characters and when I should have been cheering for the scientist who finds the vaccine and circumvents all the red tape to save millions of lives I just thought thank God for that.All in all a rather smooth and comfortable film about a killer contagion.

This movie is fabulous. No doubt about it. But I write this review to convey my appreciation to the seller (Movies, Music and Epic Serials). I had ordered 2 units of this dvd. However, only one item arrived. I immediately raised my concern in the delivery feedback. The seller immediately answered to my concern and send across the balance one unit. Five stars to the seller Movies, Music and Epic Serials.

Dieser Film schildert den realistischen Ablauf einer tödlichen Pandemie (globalen Infektionskrankheit) aus der Perspektive unterschiedlichster Menschen. Einfache Menschen wie Du und ich, Entscheidungsträger in Gesundheitsbehörden und Regierungen, Medien und Business - die sich ausbreitende tödliche Infektion reißt das Leben der Menschen auseinander, die öffentliche Ordnung löst sich schrittweise auf, die Gesellschaft droht zu kollabieren.Der Film verzichtet größtenteils auf reißerische Elemente und schildert die Geschehnisse sehr nüchtern. Möglicherweise trifft er damit nicht den "Unterhaltsnerv" eines breiten Publikums, aber hier dürfte es auch weniger um Unterhaltung gehen. Hier geht es mehr um ein plausibles, glaubwürdiges Szenario, in welchem sich jeder wiederfinden kann, und der Film bezieht seine Spannung aus plausiblen, glaubwürdigen menschlichen Reaktionen, die das Beste oder auch das Schlechteste des Menschen zeigen können. Diese werden hier von hervorragenden Schauspielern verkörpert.Wer also realistisch die Folgen einer Pandemie miterleben will, dürfte hier die bislang glaubhafteste Fiktion zu diesem Thema finden und kann sich damit gut in die Lage der Menschen hineinversetzen. Wer dagegen unterhalten werden will und mitreißende Action und Dramen nach klassischer Hollywoodmanier sucht, könnte enttäuscht sein. Ich bin am Ende nur dankbar, dass es Menschen gibt, die sich professionell mit dieser Materie auseinandersetzen und uns hoffentlich zu Lebzeiten dieses tödliche Szenario wie vor ziemlich genau 100 Jahren mit der Spanischen Grippe ersparen.
