Gen42 Games Pillbug Pocket Expansion Game

As the Hive instruction booklet recommends, it's best to learn the game without the expansion pieces that come with Hive Pocket (the Mosquito and Ladybird). But once you've reached the stage where you're playing confidently with the standard pieces, it's best to add all three expansions at the same time - Mosquito, Ladybird and Pillbug. The Pillbug works as a beast of a defensive piece, being able to pick up and move anything it's next to - either shifting your Queen Bee to safety or throwing attacking pieces away. A well-placed Pillbug becomes something you have to really think about neutralising before going for a final attack. It definitely adds a lot to games so buy it ready for when you feel it's time to add the expansions.

This is exactly as expected. I haven't played the game with this add on yet as it is a birthday present for my son, but he is convinced that these will be the best pieces of the set, and will worth the add on. We love the gameplay of Hive, and there is something so special about the dominio-like feel of the pieces. Very tactile and heavy.

You will buy it, and you will moan at the price. It is a needed expansion, and the quality is good, just the price is a little painful. Get it, be annoyed at it, then enjoy it.

This one piece completely changes how Hive works, in a really cool way. It's the only way that a white piece can be moved on black's turn (and vice versa) which open up so much additional gameplay options. Hive is an absolute favourite of mine, and definitely recommend the main game in addition to the expansion. Without the main game it's still pretty cool, but there's not quite so many gameplay options

Bought as a birthday present for a bee keeper, not given yet but I love it and am looking forward to playing with the recipient. It's a great game, I was introduced to it by the inventors son at uni and fell in love with the game. It's great for strategy, a bit like chess but without the board, I've bought the pocket version, to take on trips to see family or waiting for dinner at a restaurant. Still waiting for the main game to arrive, this is just an expansion :)

Se trata de una expansión para Hive Pocket, un juego estratégico para dos jugadores que guarda ciertas similitudes con el ajedrez en un formato de bolsillo. Hive es un puzzle estratégico donde cada insecto tiene un movimiento diferente. La victoria será para el jugador que logre rodear completamente a la abeja reina del adversario. Por ponerle alguna pega, si no juegas con la expansión del bicho bola, en cuanto dominas el juego, muchas partidas llevarán a empate. Es por eso que considero esta expansión imprescindible, eso sí, aseguraros de comprarla en oferta porque es una barbaidad que una expansión de dos fichas cueste casi como el juego completo.

not necessary to enjoy the base game, but this little guy is fun to employ

Das Grundspiel kostet knapp 18€, die Erweiterung, bestehend aus 2(!) Steinen, kostet satte 11€. Das finde ich sehr unverschämt. Haben es als Geschenk gekauft, daher zähneknirschend akzeptiert. Zum Spielen sind die Asseln ganz cool, haben eine Menge Potential und geben dem Spiel neue Wendungen.

Ottima questa espansione che aggiunge l'ultimo insetto (per ora) alla versione pocket, che è a mio parere la versione migliore disponibile in commercio. L'onisco è a mio parere fondamentale per aggiungere ulteriore strategia al gioco, laddove le due precedenti espansioni (zanzara e coccinella) fornivano un aggiunta ma maggiormente votata ad un approccio aggressivo. Con L'onisco si possono introdurre nuove e stimolanti combinazioni basate su un approccio maggiormente difensivo. Miglior combinazione in definitiva per giocare ad hive (che consiglio a chiunque): hive pocket più questa espansione.
