Powerful learnings for your child.
Lots of powerful learnings and situations your child should be able to connect with in this book. The story around friendship and Ethan’s discussions with his mom around the new kid (Alex) and being empathetic is a good example. Another one centered on looking for the positives and overcoming fears like Owen’s mindset around hospitals. The one we related to most was the Cycle of Pets. We just got a new dog, so my lad really connected to Lucas’s growing awareness of his responsibilities in looking after another life form. Overall, these are good stories to read with your child to talk about important skills, emotions/feelings and personal traits we can practice as we get older.

Big Life Lessons, But For Older Kids
The book has nice story lines and good lessons. While it’s supposed to be written from the personas of 7-year olds, kids in this age range don’t speak the way the book is written, such as these lines from the first story…. “Today was the day of the big dance contest, and wow, what a roller coaster of emotions…. Getting to the contest venue was like walking towards a giant castle.” Even though a 7-year old wouldn’t use many of the descriptive words in the book, the lessons of facing one’s fear and having courage that is bigger than one’s fear; lessons of persistence and not giving up when failure or disappointment happens; balancing honesty and loyalty in friendships; and more. These are important lessons for kids to learn, and a reminder for adults. This book would be for older kids, possibly 10-12 years old.

Inspiring book and valuable lessons
The book covers a number of stories told from the perspective of 7 year old boys who face different challenges that most of the kids that age encounter. I like the idea of giving the voice to young boys as it feels more personal and more relatable for young readers. They’re not ashamed of talking about their emotions, they try to name and understand them. I especially appreciated that the book reminds us all that it’s okay to be afraid or uncertain but it’s equally important to try to overcome our fears. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book.
