UPDATE - Had to return this - A must have for every kitchen (and every dieter!)
SEE UPDATE AT BOTTOM!!I got this for £12.99, at which price it's unbeatable! Even at the full £20 plus mark it would be great value. I needed good scales to count calories better - the inherent inaccuracy and poor readability of lower end mechanical scales can result in massive errors in calorie intake, particularly with pasta and oils. Accurate scales also make cooking much more repeatable, and recipes easier to follow properly, especially if you do any baking at all.Operation is very simple. Press On/Off briefly to switch on, and the machine zeroes itself. If you already have a container on the platform you can start weighing straight away, otherwise place your desired container on and press On/Off again - this executes the Tare function, which zeroes the display again. Start weighing! You can press Tare (On/Off) in between each ingredient and just keep adding things up to 2 Kg in total. The machine will tell you on the display if you go over the weight limit. Also, a little arrow appears on the top left of the display to let you know that it's ready for the next item. The Mode button simply cycles between units of measurement. It can weigh in grams (g), ounces (oz), troy ounces (ozt) and pennyweight (dwt), although the best accuracy is in grams, obviously. If you like to weigh in Lbs/oz you'll be disappointed, but aren't we all going metric these days, anyway? The unit can be re-calibrated if needed, by holding down the Mode button and placing a 2Kg calibration weight on the platform, although given the high price of these weights I'll probably never do it.I've discovered that any slight fluctuation in reading is down to air currents, not a fault. Blowing lightly on the scales can generate a reading of several grams, so don't be alarmed! The unit is small, light and stylish, and the blue display matches the blue light in my Breville kettle, which is silly but nice. The supplied bowl is quite small. I think that weighing enough ingredients to make a large loaf of bread, for example, could get quite messy, but I'm sure the local pound shop will have something light and suitable to use in those situations.Obviously it's not going to be as sturdy or consistent as some scales, but consider that you can pay several hundred pounds for top end scales that weigh to this accuracy, and these knock the socks off most consumer scales - definitely a massive step up from cheap mechanical scales. Having said that, the build seems pretty tough and I really don't see any danger of it falling apart in normal use. There is a 5Kg version of these scales that weigh to the gram, so if you don't need the 0.1g accuracy or you'll be weighing larger amounts consider that option. Personally, I think that the mechanical spring scales are accurate enough for large joints of meat, so I chose to sacrifice load capacity in favour of accuracy. Do bear in mind that overloading electronic scales can permanently damage them, so use your judgement. Maybe buy both versions?** TWO WEEK UPDATE **Having been deliriously happy with my purchase, I have to report that it hasn't stood the test of time (a little over a week). I noticed after switching it on and coming back to it about 30 seconds later that it read -11g. I pressed the On/Off to reset it, upon which it started counting backwards at about a gram a second. New batteries did nothing to help. Sometimes it seems stable, but about half the time it just keeps counting down to God knows what! I have been very careful with it, and I know for a fact that it hasn't been overloaded. I just can't trust it any more, so It's sitting in its box waiting for Amazon's people to come and take it away.I notice that almost all Smart Weigh scales are 'currently unavailable'. I can't find another decent looking scale that weighs in tenths of a gram, so I'm going for a 5Kg capacity Salter this time. Fingers crossed....

Excellent, accurate value for money scales!
I use the myfitnesspal app religiously (and have lost a stone on it!) and these scales are a GODSEND. Now I don't have to even think about teaspoons of this, and cups of that, or anything - you can literally sprinkle salt from a shaker into a full blender of other ingredients on the scale and the tenths of grams will tick up nicely so you always get a perfect amount (if you're careful at pouring that is!)It's not the most stylish looking thing in the world; honestly it looks a bit cheap (which it is, to be fair!) but I don't care - the display is bright, it's pinpoint accurate and I've had barely any problems with mis-measuring. (Solved by just turning it off and on again, the one or two times it has happened). Finally, the display stays on for a really generous amount of time, remembering whatever you've tared it to - certainly long enough to go about the kitchen cupboards, finding the next ingredients etc.I'm really happy with my purchase!

A great kitchen scale, covers all your needs in the kitchen.
This is something I use multiple times a day. I have dropped this on tiled-flooring multiple times and it still proves to function as good as the day I got it. The scale is very accurate and proves display accurate results even for very small values. I have no quarrels with this product and I find the plastic measuring container it comes with to be very useful.Something I recommend is to balance a full-size plate on the plastic containers as this makes reading the weight even easier and the plate sits perfectly. Due to circumference of the measuring dish I never worry about the plate falling off either.Overall a very accurate digital scale that proves accurate for all ranges of weight, highly recommended.

Very accurate scales
I purchased these scales to replace an old Salter kitchen scale that I had recently given up on due to poor battery life and am very pleased I did. These scales are very accurate (down to 0.1g) and easy to use. The scales included 2 AA batteries which are easily accessible for when the time comes to change them. The added bowl is also very useful as it doubles up as a protector if turned upside and placed on the scales whist stored in the cupboard. Overall a very good set of scales that I would recommend.

excellent for price
The scales are very precise and look quite stylish and sleek, but they do feel cheap and plasticy. Especially the display cover, feels very bendy like polythene rather than solid plastic

Neat scales.
Neat scales, quite nice looking, bowl a little on the "flimsy" side. Compact and easy to store.

When these Smart Weigh scales arrived I started a very large batch ...
Until now I have used a "manual" scale which was only marked in 25 gram divisions. When these Smart Weigh scales arrived I started a very large batch of baking. At first they were almost too accurate and then when I got used to them they were invaluable. They are compact and elegant and the spout on the pan was usueful too.

Smart Weigh Kitchen Scales
Just what I needed, as I was after a reasonably accurate set of scales. Easy to use which is a good thing. The Item was well packaged and came with batteries which was a winner. I was able to weigh the items I wanted with ease and having a tare facility is also handy. A good set of scales and a pleasure to use.I would recommend these scales
