Text good but perhaps over-compressed; graphs helpful; graphic illustrations frustrating at times
Attempts to provide a general understanding of dynamics in weather. It's somewhat successful I think, but perhaps too compressed. There are quite a number of really good numerical graphs which repay close study. There are also a lot of illustrations which are somewhat frustrating ... gracefully-drawn, somewhat metaphorical illustrations with various arrows ... but if the reader is really honest, the reader does not really really really know what all the arrows signify, or which are essential and which merely illustrative of multiplicity ... and usually there is no key.Sometimes illustrations are 3D for a conceptual reason, but sometimes only cosmetically so. Tables, which are numerous, sometimes just throw together disjoint taxonomies ... eg atmospheric levels and cloud properties, etc... without separating them or resolving them or trying to harmonize them. So, the book sometimes has the feel of something gathered together by a professional technical writer ... though the author is a meteorologist. For me, the book would have been more helpful if it had been (1) longer; (2) more dependent on text, and less on illustrative diagrams. I did learn things from this book though.

Meteorology Enthusiasts and Professionals
As an ardent fan of "weather" and "climate" - this is a wonderful tome! Recommended for anyone interested in the multi-faceted components comprising "what makes the weather change?" No regrets, I love this book and have since loaned it out to other enthusiasts! Great primer ------

Whats the weather going to be?
Well not so much as what is it going to be but why is going to be like it is.A straightforward easy to understand book on the weather, it goes right from basics through the weather system. A good balance of descriptive text and graphics in what seemed to me a logical sequence.Don't get me wrong you won't be working for the met office, the next Tomasz Schafernaker or predicting your own weather just from this book; but you will have an understanding of why it's like it is and what may come next - good starting point should you want to take the subject further.

Excellent for a Meteorology exam....
This is without doubt an excellent book which explains in detail how the science of meteorology works. I do not however recommend it if (like me) your looking for a simplistic book for a new beginner to the topic. This is a well researched; well presented detailed explanation which would be an excellent revision book for a meteorologist exam but for someone looking for the most simple introduction I found it a bit heavy going. That, it's important to add is NOT to the books detriment- it is an excellent book and I do recommend it

Bringing equipment into the weather
This is a competent round-up of basic concepts in the subject with some especially good illustrations. The equipment section is a useful guide to getting involved with recording and should inspire readers to get involved.
