Calming qualities on humans and cats
Yes, valerian does smell, but so do many other teas and herbs. I use it for tea, either just steep the valerian root or mix it with other herbal teas and find it having a great calming/soothing effect on my family and I. The taste is quite mild, wouldnt call it unpleasant, it's quite 'herby', not sure how to describe it but I like it. Cats go wild for the smell, I read somewhere that it has a similar if not stronger effect on them than catnip - tried letting mine drink some (cold) valerian tea but they preferred to rub their faces in it. Either way, highly recommended for anyone wanting to wind down before bed - this stuff really works, and you can't beat the price!

I love this!
I have moderate insomnia and drinking Valerian root tea is just wonderful. It calms my body an strengthens my medicine. The flavour nor smell is not great, but it doesn't matter to me, and it honestly grows on you anyway when you come to associate it with bedtime. It even tastes pretty good with a teaspoon of honey.My boyfriend has tourettes and ADHD, and when he feels bad, he'll ask for a cup of valerian tea to calm him. Sometimes he'll even drink the roots.
