Rit All-Purpose Liquid Dye, Charcoal Grey, 8 oz

I bought this product to dye Raffia grass for staining it to add to camouflage for my Airsoft equipment. The colour hasn’t faded at all and so far lasts ages. You have to wear gloves otherwise, you will stain your hands! :) The amount of dye was plenty for the project I was undertaking and I was able to use it for multiply dunks of the raffia grass. I combined this dye with the yellow one which I used first. Excellent value for money. It was easy to use and the instruction were simple to follow.

Yeah so my towels turned Kermit the frog colour after using this. However, after a few washes the colour has calmed itself down and looks more like the colour on the bottle.

I used this to dye two items, a light grey vest and a light grey cashmere cardigan that had a couple of light stains on it. The vest came out purple and the cashmere cardigan came out brown which is not a colour I’m in love with. It did dye well and covered the stains but I wanted grey and there’s no way I can get this cardigan grey now, I’ll have to dye it black if I can’t live with the brown colour. I also think it’s expensive and as the items were already grey it didn’t seem unreasonable to expect them to turn out the correct colour.

I purchased this to put the colour back into one in my daughter’s green hoodies from TopShop. It didn’t work. The instructions for the dye are indecipherable and seem to be made for US washing machines. I found a YouTube video that RIT had sponsored which was also fairly useless and just skipped key steps. If you have a stand-alone machine you may achieve better results. However, having a built-under washing machine makes it virtually impossible to pour in almost two litres of boiling water (4 cups water and salt/ four cups of water and dye) without scalding yourself or covering your cupboard doors/ worktop/ washing machine/ floor with dye (in my case fluorescent green). You need to get this water into the top feed tray before the washing machine finishes the flushing of the powder/ liquid. Also once you’re past 40 years old there’s no chance of you reading the instructions on the bottle which may as well have been printed on microfiche. Basically it has ruined my daughter’s hoodie top (which was a faded lime green to start with). The dye is patchy with dark green areas - a total mess and I subsequently had to purchase a new jogging top to replace it. However, please also note that RIT would like you to purchase a dye fixer (another £10). That’s £20 in total, making it fairly uneconomical considering a replacement hoodie is £35 delivered. And wait for it, some garments may need more than one bottle of dye... bargain! My advice would be to save your money and either tie dye when it’s at the end of its life or just buy new.

I tried another famous brand first that me being British knew well, sadly it didn’t work my white curtains came out white not the smoke grey they were meant to be. I love the curtains they are voile with a cotton backing, but couldn’t get them in grey. I decided to try Rit, and I couldn’t be happier the color was charcoal grey and I’m extremely pleased with the result it said put salt or white vinegar depending on the material . (I did google and watch a video) . I thought in for a penny, so I put both in, and I did them in the washing machine I did use 4 bottles, but I’m pleased so I don’t care lol. Absolutely brilliant stuff I wouldn’t use any other make again except Rit.

I am delighted with this product! It had exactly the effect I needed to dye my Belle costume ahead of Halloween. It even managed to dye Polyester Satin to a lovely soft yellow despite not being designed for this fabric. It arrived on time. The costume consists of a cotton underskirt, Polyester satin bodice and bustle/overskirt, and tulle along the neckline. The cotton dyed to a strong golden yellow, I would consider it almost a primary yellow. The poly-satin, which I really believed would not accept the dye well dyed to a lovely soft yellow, which is what I required. If you are looking to dye such fabric to a stronger shade, I would advise you to buy Rit Dyemore. The tulle also dyed to a strong golden yellow. I kept the fabric at a consistent non-boiling heat on the stove for 60 mins, constantly stirring and agitating the dye bath to achieve these results. I received no discount or benefit from writing this review, I just understand how useful images can be!

I bought it to experiment with dyeing process. Took an old jeans (almost white in color) followed the instructions on the bottle and the results are satisfactory. It gave a dark navy blue colour to the pants. Got a very intense Color as I had used the whole bottle. Fabric although hardens (becomes stiffer) after dyeing.

Use it to faded rain pants , it work well to restore black color
