Older equipment will require HDMI adapters
Replaced an older Sony unit and am very satisfied with this one as the sound quality is great. This and most new units do not have RCA jacks so if your running some old equipment you will have to buy adapters to plug into HDMI on the unit.

Best atmos receiver for the price
Previously had a Yamaha rx-v4a and was a little underwhelmed by surround sound quality. In addition, wasn't thrilled about the "update" needed so it could do full bandwidth 4k120 for xbox one x, as I assumed it was fully compatible when I initially bought it. Took the plunge on the Sony STR-AN1000 and I must say I'm impressed. The surround effect is much more pronounced and I notice that dialogue is louder/clearer. I also feel like the auto-calibration is more effective. This is coming from an existing 5.2 in ceiling system, so I haven't actually even tried it out with atmos-designated speakers yet (planning to add 2 more in-ceiling surrounds for full 5.2.2). Considering the Sony receiver is now significantly cheaper than when it first came out, I don't see any reason to pick any other receiver under the $1000 price point. Also it came with an additional 2 year warranty from Beach Camera, which is an added plus.

Really bad interface and remote.
This isn't a review on the quality of sound. It seems fine to me though I have to turn the volume up quite a bit to power my Canton Ergo speakers. My biggest complaint the user interface. Who designed it? It's not intuitive or elegant. I hate the remote too. It's not backlit which a major pain in the dark.

This receiver will stop working 3 to 5 months!!
Please do NOT buy this item! It works great but will stop allowing the visual signal to the tv, where you can hear the audio but cannot see a picture! I have bought 5 different ones and they ALL broke down within a year!!
