can this be used to make thermite?

If you're under 30, go to your local Marine recruiter's office and enlist as an 03xx (infrantry), graduate boot camp, then hope there's a real war while you're in. IF there is, you will very likely get lot's of experience with thermite and it's hotter sibling thermate. I know I and many other Marines did in Fallujah, Iraq during '04-'05 - The most fun city to be in during that time as a Marine. We used thermate often to render useless the countless weapons we obtained off of the enemy. Even if you don't get any combat experience, you'll get some practice with it but that's not as fun. Don't stare directly at the thermate, it's like staring into the sun.

Will this work on hydrangeas to turn blue?

Red iron oxide will not work. To turn hydrangeas blue you will need a soil acidifier (some people use iron sulfate, sulfur, aluminum sulfate, or others). The pH of your soil will have to be lower than 5.5 for them to turn blue.

Can this be used for oilskin ?

I used it to dye muslin and silk. It did not produce as intense a color as I had hoped.
