If you wanted, you could simply use one as an HD web browsing machine... tiny, power efficient, and plenty capable. Important to note that these also have the capability to accept multiple input signals for whatever processing or automation you can dream up. For some people, this might mean using a motion sensor to trigger camera photo or video capture. I was doing that with one for a time until I switched to an 8 channel DVR system. Now I use a grand total of 10 Raspberry Pi 3B units to capture data from various Earth science sensor projects and build realtime 24/7 graphs from each, that are then sent to another RPi 3B unit which assembles them and my security camera feeds into a website for easy LAN and Internet access. These things are only toys if you treat them as such. Best description I ever heard is that they are like a tiny computer that does one thing really well.

The answer is yes and no. Yes it is a computer yes depending on what OS you put on it will have similarities but this is not very powerful. It only has 1 gig of ram, it runs lite versions of OS’s. This is more of a project computer. Do some googling and look at some of the books on Amazon, it will give you a better idea of what you can do with a Raspberry Pi.
