Based on his many years on of personal experience, Hoyt's encyclopaedia is profusely illustrated, with all species of whales, dolphins and porpoises detailed in the latter stages of the tome. There is a wealth of information on the biology, ethology, evolution and conservation of species and an assessment of their prospects as threats to their habitats increase and through continued whaling.

My excitement at this book's arrival was shared by my children: my 6-year-old tumbling over my shoulder as I turned the pages, open-mouthed at the diagrams which show the scale of a whale beside a person. I've been a fan of Hoyt's work since I was almost a child myself and found a copy of 'Orca' in the village library, and he's at least partly to blame for my own cetacean obsession. Came on time and in perfect condition. Has very good quality and is very sturdy. Small in size but not tiny along with being a little heavy. Very informative about everything whale related. I recommend it to anyone who loves whales and learning about them.
