Winsor & Newton690174 Designers Gouache Primary Colour Paint Set

This shouldn't be in toys category...an oversight there!Fabulous paints by the best paint manufacturers in the world. They have an opaque look but handle like watercolours, in that you use watercolour supports, such as wood pulp or cotton rag watercolour papers and the brushes wash out in water. They are smooth and easy to use. You can mix and create your designs, or artwork to perfection. Watercolour is transparent and has to be worked light to dark, with gouache you can work the other way adding lights over darks and building up to high-lights. Very versatile to use and they can be worked in with watercolours to get different effects with your artwork. They are really good for detail and when working with really fine brushes. One friend works tiny 2.5 x 3.5 inch ACEO's in these paints and they look amazing.Other reviewers marked them down because they didn't like the colours being called 'primary' and wanted individual shade names, well that's what most of them are called, i.e. primary red/blue/yellow, with the odd exceptions. It does state in the product description the exact colours.These are a great buy and a good price to get you started.

A good range of starter or limited palette colours and the quality is good, as you would expect from Winsor and Newton. A good introduction to gouache or a useful basic set for occasional use.For those not familiar with gouache, they are water soluble and generally strongly opaque.Highly recommended.

These paints are so enjoyable to work with. I can get very light washes and thick poster-like colours within seconds of each other.

A lovely set of paints at a reasonable price . They are different to water colour but can be used with them and they compliment each other. This set is ideal for beginners and experience water colour painters

They're good quality paints but I find it rather difficult mixing all the colours I need from just primary colours - how, for instance, do I make the red brighter. They are a good addition to one's gouache paints, but I don't think you could use these to the exclusion of other colour gouache paints.

Great product. Prefer lower price.

Just the same product as I used many years ago commercially. It's good to know that some products never change. A more study box like the 60's version would make this the truly perfect product.
