Excellent sharpener!
Excellent sharpener! Used for sharpening small blades on my penknife and leaves a sharp edge.

The only way I could sharpen my bread knife
I didn't know these existed up until buying this one. I though my knife would need to be replaced. This file works well but you do need to practice as it's not as simple as it looks. Time and watching some YouTube videos then you'll get to grips with it. I'm not too keen on the folding handle design but it does help with storage.

Easy to use
A little rattling when closed, means this item looses a star. Easy to use. Sharpened two knives so far, and seems to be solid enough to keep on.

Precision
Precision tool, excellent quality

Too expensive and poor quality
Disappointing. Before I got half way of sharpening my bread knife, all the diamond coating had disappeared. If anything half was sharpened OK, the other half was not. Far too expensive for the quality that delivers.

Peeling and Rusting
The abrasive layer is peeling off and rusting after a single use.

It didn't come with a round handle as shown instead it is a plastic foldable rectangular handle. It's not good to use that type of handle.

I use DMT flat sharpeners for standard cutting tools but for serrated blades, hawksbill knives etc. the DMT tapered rod is by far the best. I'm originally for Western New York State , home of Cutco and Ontario Cutlery. The Cutco serrated blades are notoriously difficult to sharpen but the DMT does a great job. I suggest getting both the coarse and fine (blue and red) versions. It takes a little practice to get the right angle and width when sharpening serrated blades but once you get it figured out sharpening goes pretty quickly. One thing I particularly like about the DMT tool is the diamond chips are attached via brazing or something similar and they do not pull out of the matrix at all. I've probably sharpened 200 times with these tools and they cut just as well now as they did on day one. I also like the folding feature. Perfect for a quick touch up when out in the field.

Although the DMT diamond knife sharpener worked well, the construction is very flimsy and disappointing. Surely, the plastic handles could have been made more sturdy!
