Very happy!
Arrived in great condition. Lovely gift for my partner: the cover is exactly as pictured with pretty colours & a deeper inset texture to the text and detailing, the edges of the pages are gold, and there's a handy ribbon bookmark.

Beautiful Book
This book is like holding treasure! Something to be passed down through the generations. Either read to very young children as bed time stories or for older children and adults to enjoy. I like that it has no illustrations as a child’s imagination will be better than any illustrator could accomplish. What you’re getting here is well over a hundred short stories that have been enjoyed over and over again for the past 200 years by a fantastic author presented beautifully.

A 'pretty' book for the shelf but not a great format for young readers.
The media could not be loaded. Lovely to have the original text in a sturdy hardback edition and it looks good on the shelf so would buy more of the Barnes & Noble Leatherbound Classic Collection. Some of the stories feature in the year 4 syllabus for my 9 year old daughter. She is studying in Portugal so will not only have a watered down/Disney-fied version but also have been translated into Portugese so wanted her to have an original version in English.Although being an easily distracted person in the first instance, this text will not be easy to digest for her... so I will also seek out a text with more artwork and a larger print.

Gorgeous books
This series is a real feast for the eyes and the mind equally. It came without wrapping, so that was disappointing but thankfully there wasn't any scratch on the golden edges.

Highly recommend
Fabulous book. Looks lovely and pages are perfect, no imperfections on my copy. Stories are as I remember them. Highly recommend this book for a fan of fairy tales.Font size reads great. After reading some reviews I was in two minds as to buy this but I am glad I ignored the negative reviews. Because of that, this is my first ever amazon review

FABULOUS BEYOND MEASURE!
Bought for myself, to obtain a thorough knowledge of Andersen's work. I cannot even express how I loved this book! Of course all the old gems are there, such as my personal favourite, The Ugly Duckling. However, in the more than 750 pages involved, there are countless other standards, all you would remember or desire, plus dozens of stories which deserve to be much, much better known. The translation was done by the very erudite Danish-American actor, Jean Hersholt, & is still considered the finest version. As to the physical presentation, the binding is extremely sturdy, with a bound-in ribbon marker. The end papers are a gorgeous depiction of a nature scene, in slightly richer than pastel tones. The cover is glorious! Hubbed spine, very leathery feel, gorgeous pink, gold, & blue. No interior illustrations, but the stories are so charming & paint such wondrous pictures in your mind, that you won't miss them. The pages are edged with gold all the way around. I can honestly testify that I enjoyed every single story. Andersen is a million light years away from the Grimm Brothers' anti-Semitic & grisly collection as you could wish (I have also read their entire collection, a painful experience!). Andersen's tales are full of humanity & warmth. They are amazingly imaginative! I was always eager to see what their conclusions would be. Buy this book, if you love literature. Buy it if you love being charmed. Buy it if you want something lovely on your bookshelf. Just buy it!

Eireann Press Kindle Edition
This is a review of the kindle edition of Hans Christian Andersen's Complete Fairy Tales. I notice that most of the reviews for it are for the hardcover edition. Paper and print quality for this edition were not an issue. The version I had was free of any illustrations except for the cover art.I was reading an older speech or essay by Daisaku Ikeda in either the World Tribune or Living Buddhism a while back in which he referred to a story by Hans Christian Anderson called “The Silver Shilling.” It occurred to me then that not only had I never heard of this particular story before, but I had never read any of Hans Christian Anderson’s stories in their original format. By this, of course, I mean a good translation as they were originally written in Danish. This book has no mention of who the translator was. There are 127 stories in this collection of which I only know about ten or twelve, and not all of them very well. Even of the ones I thought I knew pretty well, some as they are presented here are so different from the frequent retellings you hear most often as to be almost unrecognizable. “The Red Shoes” for example is much different from the version you usually see. “The Fir Tree” is probably the story I know the best. It usually finds its way into Christmas anthologies because of the little fir tree’s experience one year as a Christmas tree. It is substantially the same as the story I know. The designation of fairy tales for these stories is surprising, as fairies are not mentioned in no more than three of them and elves in perhaps as many as five. Much more common are stories featuring birds, flowers, or inanimate objects who talk and act very much like people. In one case there is a bottle neck that has a surprisingly long story. There are also several life stories of pretty much average people; some of them live good lives and end by going to heaven and meeting someone they had lost. Others do not live so well and die very unhappy. There are three or four stories of boys and girls who played happily together as children but were later separated in one way or another. Some of these children were later reunited. Others drift away and never find each other again. Angels feature prominently in some of the stories. Almost all of the stories have a moral of some sort. There is also an unexpectedly large number of stories of the lives of prominent artists or writers, occasionally as viewed by the flowers or birds that lived in their yards. Most of these were Scandinavian artists so I didn’t recognize many of them. They almost invariably died young, however.

Extremamente encantador
The media could not be loaded.
