Simple and effective drum dampener.. Recommend.
After using gaffer tape, moon gels etc, after putting brand new clear drum heads on my kit, i wanted a better looking alternative. My kit is set-up in a studio so i wanted a semi permanant but easy and visually nice looking way to reduce my drum overtones etc.. Moon Gels are great and still the 'go to' for fine tuning your snare and toms, but the thought of having to put them on everytime i used the kit, plus i couldnt leave them on as they would eventually lose their stick and dry out... Heard of these and i have to say, perfect for me, it dampens the overtones causing issues yet, at first glance looks like there isn't anything on your toms. I've A/B'd with moon gels and these give almost the same result, though with moongels your able to give a more 'snare crack' sound.. But for me, all the drums give less resonance to each other, the snare sounds solid with little or no buzz and each tom sounds good. I have to say i'm using this in a room with little dampening and without these, the kit bounces off everything, if out and gigging, your moon gels would be ok to fine tune trouble areas. Plus, as a tuning aid, this helps dampen the sound if your tuning the toms whilst still on the kit.

Great product. Very effective.
I bought these to damp down the ringing sound on my kit. They are very effective. Very pleased with them.

Cheap way to dampen toms
The e-rings have been very useful in dampening my toms, which resonate a lot. They sounded like they should be used in an orchestra, not a band! The rings muffle the toms pretty well and they sound a lot better now. As for the snare drum, it's not nearly as good. In fact the ring hardly made a difference. I'd probably go with moon gel instead.

Dampens the drum heads great and sounds so much better with them. Controls the resonant head giving an all round great sound.

Control Your Sound
I chose the fusion pack for use on 10 and 14 inch toms (the 12 inch ring is redundant with my set-up). I now have 2 levels of reduction of harmonics on DW jazz toms by using the 1 inch ring on the floor bass and the tom un-muted, and 1 and 1.5 inch rings on Tom and floor bass respectively. These allow the character of the drums to come through and work beautifully. Exceptional value at £6.50 a set.

Remove some higher frequencies.
Remove some of the higher pitched frequencies from my toms. Sound very nice when drums miced up through the PA.

Get your size correct-whats in a name?
Personally, I don't like my toms ringing and tingling in my ears, long after a note has been struck. I prefer what many refer to as the "fat" sound with a little resonance as an after effect. However, on some pieces of music, I do, so what I am saying here is that with these E-rings I get the best of both worlds. In other words if you want a high sounding tom, remove the E-ring, but if you want a fat sounding tom, put them back. It really is simple to do and a matter of personal choice of your own ear. A professional drummer friend recently told me when I requested a snare E-ring whilst playing on his kit, "any drummer, should be able to get on any kit.....and play it" I responded by saying, using the Evans E-rings (or any form of dampening) is a matter of personal choice. We are still friends! These rings are great to have, I use them on all my toms and snares, just make sure you order the correct size pack for your drums, for example a pack of Evans Fusion does not come with a 16" tom E ring so I went for the standard pack (content 4 rings) which does have the 16" included. Whether Standard pack, Fusion or Rock they all serve the same purpose and that is keeping the resonence level to a minimum.......AND pleases the neighbours endlessly too if you practice at home! Hope this review helps someone.
