A new fairy tale for kids
A lovely tale for children, but at 68 years old I enjoyed it too. Magic.

great story
I found this story to be both entertaining and well written. I liked the characters including the main character, gopher, who seemed very human.

Excellent! Wonderful!
I was captivated from the first paragraphs to the last. This splendid story, well-developed and endearing characters, masterfully woven plot, and superb description keep every moment entrancing and moving in exciting, unanticipated directions. I thoroughly loved the worldview; a triumphant classic!

Made me smile
Nice unassuming tale. Greatly enjoyable. Steeped in a certain symbolism that is not at all to its detriment. Gopher is very human in his thoughts and actions. His journey is simple and great at the same time.

A fantastic read in the same means and manner of C. S . Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia.
It is more than what you expect or imagine. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the message it reveals in the end.

A real creature feature.
It was not what I would have called a classic fantasy. Allegory is not my favorite, but I did enjoy reading about a hero that doesn't fit the classic mold.

The book of life
This turned out to be a very special reading to me. It kept me wanting to not stop, but my tired old eyes would have to rest. Very enjoyable. I like the way it turned me around wondering about the special references I discovered.

Enchanting
I bought this book because of its quirky title, but as I read, it just got better and better. This lovely book was such a surprise. Enchanting. A joy to read.

Not interesting for me
I got 3/4 of the way through this book and just ran out of the desire to finish it.

From the point of the Gopher?
The story itself turned out to be from the point of the gopher. Which I guess is the reason for the whole book. Was NOT expecting the ending to be something similar to the last book of the chronicles of narnia. The book just dragged on and was so repetitive at times. The ending seemed rushed, as if the author needed to wrap up the book so he could be done with it and go on to something else. Gophers character seemed to develop in spurts, with a lot of self doubt and bouts of self pity, anger, and self realisation. I love to read pretty much anything but this one was a " can't wait till its over" kind of book. So glad it did end and there is not going to be a sequel.

Three Stars
Mildly entertaining though very much full of redemption symbolism which got quite heavy toward the end.

Great Start
This story though well written started off more interesting than many of the fantasies I've read of late but truly failed in the last 25^.
