It's All Gone Pete Tong [DVD]

"It's All Gone Pete Tong" is amongst my all-time favourite films ... so this is not a 'neutral' review. I think it's a brilliant film - with a good story, a fantastic cast (and superb acting), great direction, and amazing music. Everything comes together to form a wonderful whole ... and the standout aspect of this film is its humour. I was smiling, cringing and laughing throughout. It's a bittersweet comedy, highly poignant, and ultimately uplifting.This is Paul Kaye's best film, and he's perfectly cast as world-renowned club DJ Frankie Wilde - who's into drugs, casual sex, having a good time on the beach, and generally living a hedonistic lifestyle. He lives with his sexy wife and (is it his?) child in a large, comfortable property on the island of Ibiza - and everyone is happy. Unfortunately, Frankie's hearing starts to rapidly deteriorate ... and he seeks solace in a combination of ignorance and cocaine. But, after he becomes totally deaf, he can no longer pretend all is right with the world. His club dumps him, his wife leaves him, his manager abandons him ... Frankie is alone, hoping that his ears will miraculously heal. A year or so later, realising that he's a deaf man, Frankie decides to re-join society. He meets an attractive sign-language teacher (and the two of them start a relationship). And, feeling good about himself, he tries to mix music ... realising that he can "feel" the sound (the vibrations) and, as such, is able to work as a DJ. He records an album, which is highly successful, and suddenly everyone wants to be friends with the infamous deaf DJ! Only Frankie has grown up, and now only wants to settle down with his new lover and live a 'quiet' life.I cannot recommend this movie too highly. It's a joy to watch. But I do understand that it's not for everyone ... this is a particular brand of humour, and some people just won't like it. But it's worth giving a try. You may end up loving this film!This is a review of the Blu-ray (imported from the USA). While it's a region 1 disc, it plays on my European Blu-ray player. I also own this film on DVD. The Blu-ray version provides for a much more vibrant and clear image. However, the Blu-ray has no special features - whereas the DVD has lots!

Watched this film on YouTube and really thought it was good! Funny and silly but has a positive spin, one that you can relate to. Based on a mans life of discovery, that disability doesn't have to hold you back, that actually it worked in his favour .. An eye opener for sure .. Based upon a fictional character called 'Frankie Wilde' who is a DJ that goes death because of to much noise, his ears could not take it, not realising how bad it was, ploughed through it and got laughed off stage, seeking help and becoming a recluse was his way of trying to come to terms with loosing the only thing he new he was good at, and that was listening, a good ear for sound and production. He realised that locking himself away was not the answer and decides to face his demons and seek proper help. He learns how to read lips and discovers he can feel the vibration and use his eyes to see where the music is supposed to come in, with a bit of practice and the right lady supporting him, he breaks through and proves to everyone that he could still do it .. Must watch film .. Life after adversity is always the best!! .. Well recommended seller as well

I stumbled on this film on tv recently, and was moved to tears (in between laughing out loud). Had special resonance for me as i damaged my hearing badly through loud music and now have tinnitus, and therefore could identify with alot of it / found very moving. Yet the humour also very good throughout, some understated Brit mickey taking, other parts surreal e.g. the slobbering badger that turns up randomly (rather like Kato attacking the inspector in Pink Panther films!) representing the dj's coke habit. Also v pleased didn't wane towards end as many comedies tend to do! Highly recommend, think this probably in my top 10 films now, though partly through synergy with my own life.

Good movie based on the story of Pete Tong. It’s not a comedy as the advertisers wants you to believe so they sell it.

Have been waiting ages to see this ever since I first saw the trailer. And I have to say it was worth the wait! The story is about a top Ibiza DJ who becomes stone deaf after years of caining it on the White Isle, and then decides to make a new album! Paul Kaye gives a top performance as Frankie Wilde - it's as if he was made for this role.Even if you are not into dance music there are still lots to like here. A comedy which takes a bit of a dark twist, and with such an original plot, I'd recommend it to anyone who fancies a good laugh! Go buy it now...

Not much to say, I couldn't find it on streaming services to purchased to rewatch again

One of the best movies.

Terrible movie. I gave it 20 mins and turned it off. 24 hr Party People, Weekender, Human Traffic are much better films.
