First pregnancy
We bought the Elle Tens for our first pregnancy. As soon as my wife started to get contractions we used the unit on a low setting. After a short time my wife thought that it was helping with her pains and the boost button definitely helped. The whole labour was over in 7hours so it was very quick and intense and we only got to wear it for a few hours. We were still on a relatively low setting when we stopped using the item - there were plenty more power settings available had labour lasted longer and been more gradual. We only stopped using when my wife got into the birthing pool and used gas and air (you can't wear in the pool). The machine was easy to use and I showed my wife how to change settings in labour. She quickly got to understand altering the various settings as and when required. Felt nice and chunky, big buttons to use and the chord was useful for hanging round the neck. Very glad we bought this.

Highly recommended - labour survival tool
I was induced with a hormone pessary as my waters had broken with no contractions. I honestly would not have survived the contractions and pain without this machine. I had taken paracetamol an hour after induction and wasn't able to have any stronger pain relief as there were no available beds on labour ward. As a result I had to manage the pain for 10 hours before a bed was available and I could get an epidural. For the 2 hours prior to getting an epidural I was given gas and air, but by this point I was so exhausted that I was unable to coordinate my breathing to gain any benefit from it. The Tens got me through every contraction alongside counterpressure applied by my husband. It is without doubt one of the best purchases I made throughout my pregnancy and I would recommend this to anyone who is planning on having a vaginal delivery (even if you want a water birth, as it is difficult to predict whether this will truly be possible). I have also continued to use this for lower back pain following the delivery which has been really helpful to aiding my recovery. In summary my advice is that this is worth every penny and if you are not keen on purchasing it, you can hire it on the babycare website.

Pain relief like no other!
So I didn’t get to use this product in Labour (long story involving a c-section!) however! I have a bad neck and this has been an absolute god send. It is easy to set up and use and honestly, feels just like the one my physio uses! When I use it it is comfortable and with use over time it has given me pain relief, something normally I need physio for! I have saved money by using this instead of going to physio quite so often, so I would say it’s excellent value for money. I am sure it would have been great in Labour - my little boy just didn’t want me to try it out clearly. I would highly recommend to any mothers to be and anyone with a bad neck! Five stars from me! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Amazing bit of kit!
Excellent machinesHired one for first baby 3 years ago.Purchase this one for second child who arrived two days ago.My wife raves about the TENS and said she would have been in trouble during labour if she didn’t have it.It proved excellent pain relief when required.I now look forward to using it for some reoccurring shoulder pain.

Wouldn't have been without it!
A definite must have purchase for anyone about to have a baby. I was able to get to 3 cm dilated without any pain relief but once at the hospital was grateful to be able to put this on and still wander around whilst the next few hours dragged.Downsides:1. The sticky pads are not brilliant if you need them quite low and want to keep oscillating positions, they do get crumpled up and start to come away from the skin, meaning that they are not as effective. I found that if I had been sitting or lying down I had to keep re-applying pressure to them when I had contractions but was standing up otherwise I couldn't feel them. This was really only a problem on my lower back ones not the higher ones.2. One of the pads/leads did stop working, fortunately I had read this may happen and so had purchased spares which I had taken and I have never been so grateful for them. Would definitely advise getting extra pads and connections.3. The pulse setting I found to be rather uncomfortable and actually intensified my contractions and hurt my skin even on a fairly low setting in the early stages but found a low setting useful as the labour progressed.Upside:1. Did distract from the early contractions and help with the muscle tightening2. Battery life was epic, I was in labour 18 hours and used the tens machine for over 11 hours of it and didn't have to replace the batteries or have any problem with them even though the machine was on constantly3. Very portable, had a clip I could fasten to my gown so that I could walk around easily and make it to the toilet, etc4. Easy to use and later in labour good as the leads were long enough for my husband to have 'control' of the pulse function. As I got tired he took over and was able to press it when he knew I was having a contraction, which helped him feel involved and gave him something to do (is a lot of waiting around for the bloke)Although quite expensive, it was £40 to hire one so was very glad I had purchased my own for the extra and could pack it in to my hospital bag well in advance knowing I was all sorted. Simple to use and effective particularly in early labour.
