Impressive unit for the cost and size.
This is a really good radio alarm clock for the price. The two alarms are completely independently configurable (DAB, FM or buzzer) with individual volume levels. Snooze function too. The alarms can be set to daily, weekdays only, weekends only providing a good few options.Auto tuning is fast both for DAB and FM and the manual tuning is also quite painless. The unit is so easy to use I set up most things without the manual, and when I did need the manual it was really easy to follow - no nasty confusion resulting from poor or incomplete translation here! The clock is set automatically from the DAB signal (as expected). Sound quality is good for the small footprint of the unit (takes up very little space on a bedside cabinet) and when you push the volume up you do get an impressive bass content without any significant distortion. The display screen is permanently back-lit and bright enough to see by day and night without being dazzling. For some the display might be a little small - but bearing in mind most of the time I'll be no more than about 3 feet away from it this is not a problem for me.This is by far the best alarm clock radio I've had in this price range, and to be honest I don't need any other functions than those provided by this radio alarm clock.

A recommended economic DAB Alarm Clock/Radio
An excellent economic DAB radio with very acceptable audio quality. The automatic clock setting is first class and time accuracy/time zone changing should be equal to any radio-controlled clock so probably really good. The DAB Auto Scan found over 30 stations immediately using the built-in telescopic whip and DAB reception was noise-free, and a great improvement on our previous FM radio - alarm. FM was less good with inferior noisy reception on some stations, similar to other FM portable radios. On the down side the control buttons are located close together so care must be taken to hit the right spot when operating. The presetting procedure for DAB stations is quite hit and miss, working correctly on some stations and not "storing" on others. However persistence paid off and finally all required stations were preset. I conclude that the hardware/software design is slightly flakey on this facility but once mastered is acceptable. Setting the two Alarms initially appeared over complex but several minutes experimentation showed it is fairly easy, especially if the user does not require to change Alarm parameters every day. Since the unit is quite small (5.5" x 5.5"x 1.5") the LCD display area is limited. It is quite adequate for normal operation and setting up, but is not big enough for easy time checking during the night, especially without spectacles. Unit operation with the supplied Mains Adapter was both trouble and hum free. Switching the unit to Standby for Alarm warning cancellation was straightforward and satisfactory as was manual radio station tuning where the digital channel selection was slick and easy. Operation on the Qty 4 AA size batteries was indistinguishable from Mains operation. In portable use on batteries the rear power cable must be unplugged from the unit. Not a problem!Altogether a fine little clock Radio/Alarm streets ahead of all previous units used in our household. Highly recommended so long as you don't need big time digits on the display.

When trying to lower the volume (as you often would do when trying to get to sleep) adjacent to this button is the "autoscan" bu
Received very quickly ; radio appears to be very solid, well built with an unusual but pleasant rubbery texture. It is very neat and stylish for a bedside cabinet and looks classy. The operating instructions are very clear and comprehensive - setting the radio up is therefore very straightforward. Sound quality is acceptable ; exactly what you would expect from a small clock radio. On the face of it therefore, an excellently priced, quality DAB radio comparable to those you see from more well known manufacturers at double the price or more. However, I have a number of issues concerning this radio for its intended use as a bedside clock radio.Fist of all the display is much too bright such that it tends to illuminate a darkened room and I could imagine disturbs sleep. The display is also very small if you are trying to read it half asleep (I also do not need to know the time to nearest second) ). This, coupled with the bright display make it a rather unpleasant experience if you want to know the time in the middle of the night.I also found an issue with the layout of the buttons. When trying to lower the volume (as you often would do when trying to get to sleep) adjacent to this button is the "autoscan" button so it is easy to inadvertently start a time-consuming full scan for DAB stations - the last thing you want last thing at night trying to get to sleep. If only they had put a more innocuous button such as standby, enter etc next to the "lower volume" control ! In common with most other clock radios, I found the minimum volume level to be slightly too loud - when trying to get to sleep, the precise control needs to be at low volume levels, unlike a normal radio. So, overall, a good quality, well priced DAB radio but with the above reservations hence, regrettably, only 3*s. If only someone from the design team had taken one home and used it as a bedside radio they could have corrected these issues before launch. However, if you think you could live with them, then would recommend without hesitation.
