Bodum Bistro Knife Block, Black

Love these knife blocks. They fit knives of any shape and size and look good at the same time.

This knife block is quite narrow (which is hard to tell from the image) and you can get a max of two knives in it width wise. Length wise its better, but bear in mind that you may have to have some knives at an angle so they dont protrude. Most other knife blocks of this type are made at an angle and I suspect that is the reason. You can get a max of 12 knives in this... and if they were all large knives I'd say about 6-8. Its quite tall too and because its not at an angle anything you put in it is upright. So, my steel would not fit in as it was too tall to fit under my kitchen cupboards. Looks nice and is stable and stores my knives, but may not be good for someone with an extensive collection or larger knives.

The original one I ordered arrive cracked, but Amazon were cool, as usual, with dispatching a replacement quickly. The block itself is great. I was looking for a knife block to 1) consolidate several of my knives from two smaller wood blocks (which were getting a bit tatty) and a drawer, and 2) coordinate with my bright green themed kitchen. This one fits the bill on both points. The colour is great if you're looking for a lime/green apple tint. The design is great. The bristles let you insert various lengths and blade styles, in whatever position you want. I currently have 6 steak knives, a couple of larger serrated knives, a large paring/utility knife, a longish straight bladed general use knife, 3 short paring/fruit knives, and a large chef's knife, with plenty of room to spare. If you're worried about long blades sticking out too much above the top, you can place them in at an angle. It's incredibly handy for stylish, easy access to all my commonly used knives, and probably the best kitchen gadget I've bought in a long while. Spent about £20-25 for it; well worth the price.

Holds knives very nicely. Not a good idea to push scissors into block as they can damage the plastic rods that hold the knives.

I needed solid storage for a set of (very) sharp Japanese knives. This looks fantastic on my kitchen top and I can store all my knives (6) easily. The long blades just need to lie at an angle, which works well and still looks great. It feels pretty stable and won't fall over easily, making it a pretty safe set...I wanted to be sure my stupid cat wouldn't decide to knock it over and bash off a knife, and all is good so far! The case is durable and shiny. A nice design and I would recommend it.

The block looks good and fits well into a small space, however, there doesn't seem to be enough plastic sticks to keep the knives tight and secure within the block. The knives slip down within the sticks. Such a shame when the block looks so good!!

Très bon bloc de couteau la couleur elle est très belle mais dommage et déçu que ça ne soit pas en silicone comme tous les couteaux bodum.

For that price the quality is not that great

Perfect size & shape for my kitchen. Holds all my knives safely without taking up too much bench space. As with all Bodum products my knife block looks & is very good quality. Highly recommend.

We have a relentlessly active and curious toddler (is there another kind?), and one of her favorite activities is helping with the dishes. Unfortunately, one of the side-effects of that is that she has learned to pull the kick-step to the counter and climb up to get at things that used to be out of reach. We had already removed knives and other sharp things from the drawers to the counters, but now the front two-thirds of the counters are within easy reach for her, and we needed a better knife storage solution. We did not want to go the magnetic strip route, as there is the small but real potential for a knife to fall (jostled, etc). We realized that the space between the kitchen faucet and the backsplash was a 'safe zone' that she can't easily reach, both because it's waaay back from the front of the counter, and also because it's defended/blocked by the faucet itself. However, simply laying the knives back there would have led to them being wet a lot of the time, plus the potential for nicks and cuts trying to extricate specific blades from the pile. So, I went looking for something that might fit in that narrow space. The good news is that this knife block fits perfectly back there, and does a great job of holding our knives. I have seen some questions about whether knives can go in at an angle, and they can, easily. However, this knife block is tall, so it may not be the best fit if placed directly under cabinets. I tried it that way just for kicks and found that it is still usable, but it's not terribly convenient and one of the angled blocks (like Kapoosh) would probably be a better choice if height is restricted. But for us this is the PERFECT solution. We got the lime green color, which matches some of our trim work and makes for a nice accent. We couldn't be happier with this block, because it provided a safe, functional, and stylish solution to our problem - highly recommended.

The color wasn't as vibrant an orange as the pic but it still looks good. For the $100+ I spend I would have got black or white at a fraction of the cost.
