Faithful No. 7, IT"S Worth Your While
Received The Faithful N0. 7. The packing could use improvement as they used one strip of craft paper for padding, and so the parts came loose (blade, chip breaker and cap) caused a small nick on blade and some epoxy chipping. However it's a looooong way to the Caribbean. And so, it's forgiven. The plane itself came in working condition, popped the blade, etc. in and away we went; everything worked right out of the box, sharp enough. I'll hone it nice, LATER.The sole not perfectly flat, so I could flatten it on sand paper or leave it as is. I've used and use KANA planes and you know they have a slight hollow before the blade, well this plane happens to have it in exactly the same place. I tried it on some lumber and planed it perfectly straight, so why fix what isn't broken. And so, I'm happy with my new No.7 plane and wouldn't change a thing. You can't beat it for the price.I'm also happy with AMAZON.CO.UK, have made several purchases lately and everything has turned out fine. I usually shop from Amazon.com (America). Will shop here with more frequency, thanks.

Nice plane, shame about the blade
For the price, this is an excellent plane. The base is flat, the sides are square, the handles are comfortable, the adjusters work, the frog is (roughly) true. However, the blade is terrible. When it arrived I flattened the back of the blade and sharpened it, it took a good edge and I set to work using it. I was flattening a piece of ash but before I'd finished I stated noticing lines in the otherwise smooth surface left after a pass of the plane. A magnifying glass showed several small nicks in the edge of the blade, something I've not seen in any of my other planes and certainly not what I'd expect after a very limited amout of use. I went back to my old Stanley No 6 while I waited for a replacement blade (a Stanley) to arrive. Neither the No 6, nor the Faithful No 7 once fitted with a new blade showed the sort of chipping on the edge that I was getting on the Faithful blade. Overall a good plane but budget for an additional blade.Photo shows the chipped edge of the blade taken by holding a jeweller's magnifying glass up against my phone - the edge looks curved because of the lens.

Workmanlike - big plane for big timbers
It's a faithful made tool... not a Veritas nor a rider. It's exactly as expected, made to do its job at a sensible price. The sole is flat enough and square to the sides, the iron isn't the best in the world but it will take an edge that holds far longer than your arms will want to plough woodPrice, ruggedness... Out the box Fit for the purpose of working WITH not working ON and subsequent essay reviews about how is been flatted, honed at X angle with a gazillion grit obscure abrasive...Get one, use & abuse, sleep easy that it's simply a tool that's not cost silly money

Cheap, you get what you paid for.
The base is not flat and took at least 12 hours to get it to an acceptable level. The lateral blade adjuster is cheap and nasty. It took some filing and banging to get it so that I could adjust the blade. The blad is cheap and need to be changed to a better quality also the chip breaker was not square and needed a lot of adjusting to get it correct. Also there is a lot of space between the chip breker and blade so when the chip breaker screw is tightened it puts a lot of tension on the blade.

Good Value
Considering the price paid, I wasn't expecting much, but this plane was surprisingly good quality.Apart from a quick sharpen of the iron the plane was ready to go, a bit more fettling to taste (smooth up the cap iron/chip breaker, round off the toe and heel). The sole was flat, the depth adjust yoke/'Y' lever was a nice cast part not stamped metal as you usually get on budget planes, and the tote and knob were well finished and secure. Overall it looks great and works well. For a beginner looking for a jointer you'd be hard pressed to find a better entry.

Unusable damaged blade
Quality plane which you can feel with the weight and action of the plane itself. However, quality control is non existent on the one. The blade arrived cracked and unusable. I don't have a bench grinder so I'll have to either pay for a new blade or send it to get reground. Very disappointed as I can't fault the plane itself.

Excellent value for money
I paid £53 for a number 7 jointing plane. What could possibly go wrong? As it happens, nothing. I received my plane in a battered cardboard box, but the internal packaging was just enough to stop it getting damaged. I did what I do with all my planes - spent an hour or so quickly lapping the sole, honing the blade and generally setting up (including a drop of oil on the adjustment wheel), and this budget plane was up and running like a dream. I will be buying more Faithfull woodworking tools as and when needed.
