Use the NobleEgg Timer with the cold start method (described below) or hot start method 1. Put the egg timer in the pot or saucepan with the eggs, in one layer, as shown in one of the pictures. 2. Watch the colors change when the water boils. Bring the water to a simmer. Depending on the desired degree of softness, take out the eggs while the indicator is in the yellow area. Similarly for medium (orange area) and hard boiled eggs. Check one of the pictures for a visual representation of the process. 3. When the eggs reach the desired level, safely take out the egg timer and let it cool at room temperature while you cool down the eggs in cold water to prevent further passive cooking. I like a softer yolk
It works as advertised. The only issue I have with the timer is the color change to white is not that obvious. I like a softer yolk .. not soft and runny but not hard as a rock either. That's somewhere between the medium and hard stage. The color change to white on lighter color background is not that easy to detect. I had a different egg timer that was red and it turned black as the egg cooked. That was much easier to just eyeball quickly to see where you were. This works and it's fine ... but I do prefer a more obvious color change.

Perfect Timing
For the first time ever, I can have soft boiled eggs (I could never get the time right). This is much better than other methods of timing eggs.

Doesn’t work. I got this so my kids would have a visual when they boil the eggs. However the timing is off and the eggs do not come out correct.

Perhaps the issue with this item is that it is not calibrated for elevation. Not sure. Doesn't work though. Hard is still soft-medium.
