La Dolce Vita [DVD]

Though I saw many Fellini's films when I was a teenager, I haven't seen this one, as I was too young when this acclaimed one was on cinema. Unique and I found the beginning of Fellini's later style.

I'm sure in its day this was a "groundbreaking moment in cinema", however watching it for the first time in 2017 I can't help wonder what all the fuss is about.In short:1. Good looking Italian dude goes to parties and flirts with lots of women, with some of them he gets lucky.2. His fiance loves him, but he's not that bothered since he met an American starlet.3. There are lots of late night dances and conversations between pretentious young people.4. 2 kids see The Madonna in a vision.5. Said American starlet goes for a late night swim in a fountain in Rome and cinematic history is made.6. The beautiful city of Rome is barely seen and when it is this is usually by way of "projection".7. It's cool to smoke and wear sunglasses at night in Italy.That's about it really. No real "plot" but I'm sure the intellectual types would insist "that's the point".Personally I found this boring and incredibly dull.

The film is excellent and I wanted it for my collection.

This is a masterpiece. Fellini caught the essence of the life back at that time in such an extraordinary way. The decadence going on in Rome, the contrast between the rich and the poor, the magnificent buildings, the glamour of Via Veneto, the shallowness and so on. Mastroianni is just amazing. I can't believe I waited so long to watch this film.

I bought it because it was the Cannes Prize of my brth year and I felt like going down the lanes of the old classics. Not too sure this was the right decision and I still dont understand why it made such a great success at the time either. If you want to sit in front of the TV for 3 hours and watch much a do about not a lot, here is your film. Very expensive for such a disappointment. Shipping and delivery was very good as usual.

A masterly film; a bit dated but bearing in mind it was filmed over fifty years ago that is no surprise. It is film of its time, and when first it came out was groundbreaking.it arrived on time and in excellent condition.
