Compact, light and accurate with very fast results
I decided to buy my own blood glucose test kit because the NHS is trying to stop people doing home testing. According to my GP, this is to avoid anxiety over the results. Personally, I think there will be more anxiety caused through not being able to ascertain the state of one's blood sugars, but I think it's probably a case of penny-pinching.So, which kit to buy? The branded units are sometimes reasonably priced but the cost of the consumables tends to be extortionate. Having looked at a few on Amazon, I eventually decided on the SD CodeFree kit and I haven't been disappointed - especially with the price of it and the consumables. I would also point out that if you are the diabetic person ordering this kit, it isn't subject to VAT and this is automatically deducted from the price at source. The kit is supplied by Home Health UK Ltd. and delivery of replacement strips, etc. is usually next day.The kit is contained in its own slim carry case, which is small enough to fit into a shirt pocket. The meter itself, which is extremely easy to set up, is very light and compact with a large, clear display of the results. It's also very fast. It takes a split second to draw in the very small droplet of blood required and then starts an instantaneous 5 second countdown to the result. It's also graduated in mmol/l for the UK market. The finger pricker is also very light and easy to load. A quick pull on the plunger makes it ready for use and a press of the side button completes the action. There are five settings to suit all types of skin and a separate cap is included for testing on parts of the body other than the fingers.Software is also available from the manufacturers' website as a free download so that meter results (it holds up to 500 in the memory) can be downloaded to produce graphs and charts for your doctor. This gives a visual picture of any trends - good or bad. The only downside is that the USB cable for connecting the meter to the PC is rather expensive at around £20.00.One other thing concerns meter accuracy. Whenever you purchase these kits do you ever wonder how accurate they are? Well, when I was recently looking around the diabetes.co.uk website, I found a link to a report on just this very subject. It was carried out by a Swiss Laboratory and they tested about 20 meters of differing manufacture. Apart from two, which were horrendously expensive to buy, the CodeFree meter came out top of the list in comparison to all those that can be purchased through the normal outlets. So, in the end, I really did make the right choice.Codefree Blood Glucose Monitor/Monitoring Test/Testing Kit+Strips+Lancets+Case - in mmol/L

Product fine. Packaging a problem
I have been buying these monthly for over a year now. Delivery is always quick and product is reliable with very few fails. So very happy with product. However, my real concern is that the packaging won't fit through the letterbox. The product is in a tiny pot like the old camera films were in. But they are then in a bigger box with instructions. Then packed again in a bigger box with additional packaging to stop the little boxes moving about! As a result (I work full time) I end up missing the postman and have to go to our depot to collect. I work a long way from home which makes it tricky to get there before closing and in my opinion defeats the object of postal delivery.I have contacted the company twice to give some feedback about this. I was told a label would be put on the box asking for parcel to be left at rear of the property. They haven't done this or responded to my email asking how I may arrange this. They have also said they will talk to the packaging department but my delivery arrived today still packaged the same way. I am off today so ordered to match my leave. What I would like is for these to be available via Prime so I can order for next day delivery. Or when we do order, rather than give a 4 day windows of when it may arrive, be specific on the day so we can order for a Saturday arrival. What would be even better if just the pots, maybe sealed with plastic, are popped in a jiffy bag. Then it would fit through letterboxes, save packaging, save petrol going to the delvery office and save our time in a mad busy world.But.....No complaints about product thry meet expectation.

2nd thoughts
First thoughts were very negative for it took a time for me to get it working properly, resulting in a lot of strips going to waste. I must have been doing something very wrong, though I don't know what, or maybe the strips were in some way faulty, for coincidentally on opening a new container ( though of the same batch), things started going right and the readings more consistant. The readings are still slightly higher than I get with my Aviva, but which of these monitors is right or wrong I cannot yet tell. Probably both are accurate within the allowable limits. My early bitter disappointment has now turned to delight. It seems to be a well made instrument, but time only will pass judgement on this. Certainly it is potentially cost-saving, and may cause other good manufacturers to re-price their test strips, which are presently ridiculously expensive, and certainly unaffordable for some of us.This 'testimonial' must not be read as in anyway reflecting badly on my Aviva, which has served me well in the past, and may well again. Just that I can no longer afford the lady.

Accurate results at low price
My medical practice will not give prescriptions for test strips for Type II diabetes. Someone has concluded that it is not cost-effective. Of course,if you take no action after seeing the results, this can be true. However, it is virtually impossible to control Type II without regular feedback on how your blood glucose is responding to your efforts at control. Most of the test systems available are quite expensive to use on a regular basis. I have a meter made by one of the best-known suppliers and I have done comparison readings with the SD meter and strips. The results were the same for both meters, I am therefore using the SD system as it is so much more affordable. It is also advantageous that the test strips come in packs of 25 instead of 50. This means that each pack is opened a fewer number of times and the strips are less liable to deterioration once the pack has been opened.
