More Trouble Than It's Worth
***Sorry for the long story*** This review has nothing to do with the product itself....well then again maybe it does. I bought this as an extension because there are multiple zones in my home, one of which is extremely warm while the others are cooled perfectly. When I inquired about the temperature difference, the HVAC technician told me there was nothing wrong with my AC unit I just needed another thermostat and said all I had to do, and I quote, was buy one and stick it onto the wall. Me not being handy at all thought literally that is all that was involved. I bought it and took it out of the box, again, thinking it was that easy to install and found out that it wasn't just battery operated and it needed to be connected to wiring. So looking at the instructions, it gave me a link (g.co/nest/install) which connected me to a sham of a company SafeStreets and the price would be about $135. This literature I got from INSIDE the box and I had to open it to get to the instructions. I ask them to schedule someone to come to do an install and then she asks me where I purchased the product from. I tell her that I bought it from Amazon. She asked me if I took it out the box and tried to install it. I told her I did take it out of the box but I did not try to install it because I saw that it was more complicated than I was able to do.She then tells me that she could schedule an install for me but because I took it out of the box AND because I did not get it directly from the Google store that it would be $435!!! I told her that first, I would not have had the information to contact her if I had not taken it out of the box and secondly, it is a legitimate Nest/Google product. Mind you, the same product was over double what I paid on Amazon. When pressed for a sensible justification as to why it was over $300 more for the install JUST based on where I bought it from, I was not and still have not been given a legitimate explanation. So now, I am stuck with this thing or I can return it and pay double what it costs on the Google store and would still have to end up dealing with shady SafeStreets company. I am BEYOND PISSED because nowhere in the literature does it say that there will be a difference in the installation price just because I had the audacity not to want to pay double for it on the Google Store website. I swear this makes me want to return to the old-shool thermostat I had before, and after I locate a reasonable electrician I just might do that. If you are not going to install this yourself do NOT open the box and do NOT tell the company that you got it from Amazon. Go to g.co/nest/install to schedule an install and if they ask you where you got it from, tell them the Google Store and again do not open the box until the technician gets there. Otherwise they will try to charge you over $400 for the exact same install they would charge you $135 if you got it from Google.

Highly Recommended to Reduce Home Energy Expenses
Great Product! Highly Recommend to reduce home energy expenses and can control from anywhere on your phone. Duke Energy offers a $150 bill credit when you register your smart thermostats too!Because of my system connections the installation was a little difficult but basic installations should be extremely easy through the app.

It was a Refurbished Nest... did not notice that when I bought it
We still installed it even though it had previously been used, but there was a reason they returned it too. There was some sort of error inside this Nest where it would always resort back to ECO function, no matter if you turned it off and set all your function capabilities to exactly how you wanted them to be. I would come home and my house would be 71 degrees fahrenheit, when I would have liked it to have stayed at the 68 degrees I turned it to before I left the house at 5am. It had a mind of its own. We researched every trick in the book, and followed every single persons advice out there on the internet on how to avoid this from happening, but on the 10th day when it STILL happened - I snapped, I was done. I wanted my old school thermostat back, and this thing could rot for all I cared. We carefully wrapped it back up and sent it back.... I really hope they got rid of it this time, instead of just marketing it as "refurbished" or "used" however they market it.... I hope it's just off the market this time. Now, most people do not have this issue with the Nest. If you like a thermostat that will ADJUST to your needs and anticipate what you might like your setting to be on, then this might be perfect for you....and in your case I wouldn't have given this one star - I would give it 5 stars, b/c yes, it anticipated my needs, but my needs were anticipated wrongly.... maybe I just didn't give it enough time to learn my daily habits.

If You have to upgrade your nest. You might have to spend a lot for the electric to run it.
I needed to replace my original nest. But I had to spend quite a bit to run electric to the current models like this one that has a downgraded battery, compared to the original that ran great without the separate electric line ,hundreds of dollars to keep going with the same product. tried changing the battery and if you don’t disassemble the original a certain way, it’s impossible to put it back together so you’re kind of backed into a corner and getting a new one which I didn’t mind doing but running the electric was over $500 because they cheaped out by changing the battery and if you don’t disassemble the original a certain way, it’s impossible to put it back together so you’re kind of backed into a corner and getting a new one which I didn’t mind doing but running the electric was over $500 because they cheaped . out on the battery
