will not fit GM cars older than 1967 without modification. SEE BELOW
I had to replace my 1964 vintage switch in my dune buggy because the fastening knob threads stripped. I had to remove / install it several times during the wiring process. This switch was upgraded in 1968 to use a slightly larger nut with courser threads - a big improvement. When using this to replace the earlier switch all you have to do is enlarge the mounting hole to 7/16" and it will fit fine. Don't forget to notch the hole for the anti rotation tab on the switch housing.

Great switch for my 1938 dodge
I added an overhead dome light and wanted a simple switch that would do all the lights, instruments and dome light using the negative contacts since my 21 fuse aftermarket harness was wired as such. Worked great but the contacts for the dome could have been thicker so that the pressure to push against the metal body would retract fully as opposed to slowly getting closer and closer and eventually the contacts stays on all the time until you gently pull it up again. I may try something myself
