Yes. You can hardwire to a light electrical circuit or if you can get access via the attic, you can plug it into the HVAC service plug that is in most houses.

does the echo dot need to be in the room that the speaker is located?

You do not have to have The Lithe Audii Bluetooth speaker in the same room in fact the wireless range is very good. BTW I purchased main single active as well as the slave speaker and couldn’t believe the sound clarity/quality. Easy to pair and install good luck. 👌
