Great Intro, Very Good Lessons
This book is great for learning the meanings of tarot cards from the Rider-Waite-Smith tradition, and is especially great for gaining a deep understanding of the major arcana and a good understanding of the often difficult to learn court cards. I feel that gaining a strong grounding in the major arcana leads to a much deeper understanding of the entire system. This book is also good for those who do not have that much experience in developing their intuition. As an important note, In this book the author helps develop "psychological/mental" intuition in the form of seeing and noting patters and themes, not so much what we think of as "spiritual intuition" or "psychic intuition," and the author herself claims not to be psychic. If you're wanting to develop higher sensory perception, you may want to get a book in addition to this that helps you tap into that side of working with tarot cards. My one and only gripe about the author's approach is that she relies heavily on the learning of card meanings and the story line of the major arcana as the method to develop skill in reading the cards. As a non-traditional reader that uses primarily my clairvoyant and empathic abilities when reading the cards, I feel this is a little "cheap." I am also biased in believing that actual intuitive or psychic gifts make for a better tarot reader, so keep that in mind when reading this portion of my review. I just think that clients can buy a tarot deck and look up meanings for themselves. On the other hand, she does encourage readers to blend traditional meanings with their own intuitive meanings, so that is a strength of this book in my opinion.Overall, great intro to the R-W-S tarot system. It's holistic, and will help anyone who wants to read for themselves or others gain a pretty good grounding in the meanings and themes of the cards.

Much More Than a Typical Tarot Instruction Book
I've read a handful of Tarot instruction books in the past and have taken a free online course. Each of these had minor strengths but often left me with a faraway, dazed look in my eyes...leading me to believe learning the Tarot was just too confusing and intense for my brain to process.Tarot 101 was recommended to me by a friend and I must say it has renewed my enthusiasm and interest, leaving me feeling confident about my ability to learn the Tarot! Kim Huggens provides an engaging, very well-written "workbook" encouraging her readers to tap into the cards immediately while completing lesson exercises that anyone can participate in. The exercises really help individuals identify with each card, regardless of the deck used. Some of my Internet friends and I have grouped together to study the book and the Tarot in a mock "Internet classroom" of our own within a message forum. This particular book works exceptionally well for this type of setting! It's fun, enlightening, engaging, and helps one to develop further intuition and actual "reading" abilities very quickly.Compared to the free online course I had taken, Tarot 101: Mastering the Art of Reading the Cards, has been a refreshing change - my eyes don't glaze over with this resource as they did in the online course while going over the exhaustive, pretty-much-boring history and origin of the Tarot. This book provides a hands on, right-from-the-start interaction for those of us who would rather "do" than "be told".

A must have if you are new to tarot
The media could not be loaded. This book is awesome. Its more like a text book. It is written in English that doesn't use a bunch of tarot terms that you feel like you need to stop and look up.This book will teach you not only about the definitions of each card, it will quickly teach you how the cards connect to one another. The book also includes short lessons to insure you understood what you were taught. If you are new to tarot, I highly recommend this book. Once you have finished it, you will be able to read any tarot deck.

It’s good but not great.
So I honestly don’t have a lot of other tarot book reading experience to compare this one to. But for me it just feels like the lessons jump around too much. Just as an example, you’ll learn about 3 major arcana cards then do a spread. Then the next chapter will be about creating spreads of your own yet you haven’t even learned the minor arcana yet. Each chapter has “homework” section and journaling questions. I don’t mind journaling, I do that already. But some of the journaling questions felt like filler. There are good recommended reads listed which is nice. It just feels like a lot of the learning is put back into the reader’s lap, so to speak. Also the major arcana are organized in the chapters based on similarities or themes. So they are not taught in order. Example, you learn about the female archetypes in one chapter, the star is the maiden, strength the whore/temptress, empress the mother and priestess the crone. Not a bad thing to learn about the cards but a little confusing when in a previous chapter talking about the Fool card is like the hero of the story. The youth beginning his journey and each major arcana card is a step along his journey. Again really cool to know but the jumping around just got confusing for me. Overall it’s not a bad book and I did learn some things. Maybe others will find this style helpful but for me I definitely want to keep searching for better tarot books.

Great tool to learn Tarot - not the greatest for a reference book
I love the book and how in-depth it goes into everything tarot. It breakes down a lot of different aspects that play into all the different meanings. It's extremly informational so if you're looking for a refrence book, this isn't the best option for you will get lost in the info and it will take you a minute to find the cards you're looking for.If you're looking to learn about tarot itself and study it, study the cards and get to know them, this is your book.

Boring
I seriously never red such boring book … i almost fell asleep during.. then after i fell asleep i never reached out to it again - btw - if you got ADHD - don’t bother buying it - it’s horrible to follow through. I almost felt like it was an angry annoying teacher standing infront of me …. It could use a bit light weighted vibe… sorry - i dislike 👎Ive definitely red better tarot books so far.
