Liquitex BASICS Gesso Surface Prep Medium, 473ml (16-oz) Bottle, White

Goes on easily and evenly, dries quickly, adheres well, gives a nice toothiness to the surface so with a little sanding acrylic paint goes on well and smooth, works great on wood and canvas. Liquitex is a great brand and this is an awesome product for the price.

Great for the price and beginners. Arrived in perfect condition. Thick, great paint quality and works terrific. The consistency is great and I wont buy any other gesso. Very easy to apply and dries fast.

Flawless product. This works incredibly well! The value is great, the coverage is great, the texture is smooth, and the color is a solid, true white. I used this to cover a mass market print on a very large canvas. The print had lots of dark lines and colors, but even with that, this gesso covered the entire print perfectly in two coats. I'm extremely satisfied with this product and will absolutely buy again when I need more, but this will last quite a while because I still have a ton left over after two coats on a 3'x5' canvas!! The handle is such a nice touch for carrying, and the lid closes tightly and securely. 10/10, highly recommend.

This white gesso is a cheap and easy way to prep paper for painting on. It should work for all paint types, and on any suitable paper. I would recommend it for anyone wanting to paint in a sketchbook... since that's what I use it for. I primarily use gesso in sketchbooks for either of two purposes: First, brushing on one or two coats of white gesso will leave an under-drawing mostly visible but not too prominent, and provide a good, waterproof surface to paint over. Second, painting over unwanted drawings with three or four coats of gesso layers will mask them almost entirely and let you reuse the page. A couple of other points worth noting: watercolor and gouache will stay active longer (and watercolor will pool with hard edges more easily) over a gessoed surface. This can be advantageous in warmer environments, but it also may require that you're more sparing with the water than you might otherwise be used to. Gesso leaves a rather rough and toothy surface, almost like a sandpaper, and can show streaky brushstrokes. I found that this matters particularly when using solid media (for instance watercolor pencils) over the gesso as you see more texture than with even a toothy paper. I'm going to try putting it on with a small paint roller next time to get a more uniform surface... And I've read that you can sand the gesso to a flatter texture.

This gesso works great!! It covered a previous canvas painting with 2 coats.

Value and quality. Added a little water because I was priming a 12' x 9 canvas. I would give it 24 hours to fully dry. I like how matte and dull it is.

This gesso is just what I was looking for. Originally I had bought a gesso from a craft brand I had never heard of, thinking to give it a try, BIG mistake. When I took the lid off the gesso, I thought I was looking at cottage cheese. The lumps of white gesso were separated from the liquid and refused to blend. Needless to say, I returned that gesso and bought Liquitex's gesso. Taking the seal off of my Liquitex gesso was a night and day difference from the previous gesso - thick, creamy paint that smoothly covered my canvases. I got exactly what I expected from a respected artist brand = quality. You get what you pay for but that being said, Liquitex's gesso had the same amount as the previous one I had ordered and $2 more. What an amazing deal and peace of mind, knowing that there's some quality control in place.
