Worth the price
I live in an area where reception for radio is sometimes really poor. I know everyone is using their phones these days, but wanted a radio that would allow me a broader use---like to the beach (don't like to take phone into sand). After purchasing smaller radios that were useless--I finally found this. It gets all of the stations I want, is easy to use---looks good and is easy to use.

Great radio but has a manufacturing problem for battery power that's easily fixed.
This is a great radio. We only had one problem in that the batteries wouldn't power it at first. The plug in power proved the quality of the reception and sound. We finally found that a metal tab was bent wrong from the factory that prevented the positive end of the left battery from making contact. I bent the tab down and now the batteries work great!

Great buy
This is a great buy especially with the price they are asking. I am able to get in more stations than other radios I’ve tried. The antenna is very long and the radio works extremely well. I highly recommend this radio. Great buy.

Wish the weak signal selectivity were better, but it can pick up weak AM stations....
Does ok on all bands, but the Retekess TR629 has digital tuning and keypad entry for AM step tuning that requires 10 Khz spacing, (not really an issue on this model other than the weak signal tuning could be better) but it can't lock on weak AM signals as it drifts a lot once tuned in and SW with the whip is fine but the frequency is off on both settings., (SW1/SW2). plus the TR629 only needs 3 D batteries and this needs 4 D.The SW signals come in pretty clear, but since I tried it at dusk, I don't know how the day-time frequencies come in, (yet). No issues with FM as it's a DSP radio, it has the old style LED bar graph that indicates signal strength power and tuning, I have not seen one of these in a radio since back in the 80's when just about every boombox had one.I had to keep the volume pretty low as this thing does go pretty loud, which is good for weak signals on any band.Since the only other flaw is the SW tuning accuracy is a bit off 10 Mhz shows up closer to 9.2 than it does on the lower side of 11 Mhz on the dial.I bought it on sale for around $38 recently, but I still prefer the direct tuning access of the Retekess TR629 even though it does not go very loud by comparison of this model. So whether you prefer this model or the TR629 is probably down to just personal preference, plus if you need it loud on SW, this is a pretty good model even if the tuning isn't a sure thing stability-wise like the TR629.If the drifting isn't a big issue, then this is probably a better deal because you don't have to worry about the batteries dying like in the TR629 because of the constant current on the power switch, etc.
