Light weight & functional
By looking at the product photo I assumed it was of a heavier weight than the lesser priced brands. Actually it is very lightweight… which is ok but not the substantial weight I envisioned for this tool. It wouldn’t take much to accidentally break it if stored improperly in a book bag. This issue aside… I think it will be a timesaver when sketching. I can’t deduct a star for my thinking it would be made of heavier wood. Overall I’m pleased with my purchase.

Excellent tool to help with drawing.
This is great scale device. Super easy to use. This scaler will help improving your drawings. Great to scale up photo to a canvas or watercolour paper. Outside simple to use for landscapes and improve perspective. The price is great.

I find this Scale Divider just too big to be precise for drawing. I use a regular divider a lot for drawing portraits from photographs. I thought that a scale divider would be a good addition to my tools to enable me to enlarge a photograph and it would be but not this one. This product would probably work fine for many applications but if you need to take very precise measurements then you need to look elsewhere. Derwent normally offers very good products but this is the exception.

Honest and Complete Review
If you're a beginner artist, then its sufficient. I got it just to have some idea of proportionality when drawing portraits. Its pretty cheap, but it works. The ends aren't that sharp, so measurements aren't too accurate; you will probably have to eyeball it a bit. One of the largest downfalls, in addition, is that there aren't any numbered scales to how much you're increasing the size. It doesn't say if I'm increasing the original by 2 or 2.5 etc., so, again, you will have to eyeball it. On the other side, it is quite durable; the wood seems strong and the bolt holding the two together is easy to use and goes well with the black coloring. It's really cheap compared to other ones I've seen on the market; many were over $50 for something that looks nice even though it does the same exact thing.

Amazing deal at amazon prime
This is very big and good divider. Shipped in good condition within two days. Since its plastic material it is light weight. The brass pivot fastner holds it the desired scale hole set while you work. With just central cross lines one can transfer the reference picture to paper/canvas scaling it up/down a desired without mesing up with paper. This is must buy for portrait artists. As usin this you dont mess up with reference picture as well as paper/canvas with grid lines.

WOW!
It feels light and somewhat cheaply made BUT it's PERFECT for an art studio. It's about 13.5" I really like it. It's great for transferring scale from still life object to canvas or paper. There are even instructions on the back of the container describing how to use.

Okay..
Just ok. Not very accurate, moves out of adjustment a little too easy. Most importantly, the wood construction is poorly finished, almost splintery! Would not recommend.

Not Useful in its Delivered Form
I bought these because they were the only 9" dividers I could find, and secondly because they have the Derwent name on them. What I realized is that, except in some very rare instances, 6" proportional dividers will do just fine; and, having the Derwent name on something is no guarantee of quality. As received, this divider is not accurate at all; lacks any sort of precision, and generally is more of a hinderance to the artist than a help. In order to be of any use at all, the artist must rework the tool to hopefully improve bot accuracy and precision. The dividers I received were so poorly mad that the pointers at one end did not line up to each other when the pointers at the opposite end were aligned. This is partially due to them being poorly fashioned. I intend to do some work on them with my band sander to at least get all points to "zero out" at the same time. I will also see if I can make the points smaller, because as received, the are pretty bulky. Additionally, the points arent the same length, meaning that one point is longer than its mate. The uneven points are at both ends of the divider. I'll fix that with the band sander as well.I inspected the channels where the bolt goes through to hold the two halves together and discovered that they were not well made. Aligning the channels shows that one drifts off to one side slightly at one end. I'll see what I can do with a rasp to correct that. The truth is, I could have made myself a better set from wood for less money, and about the same amount of work I'll have in these.Proportional dividers can help an artist better place and proportion subjects in their work. But as recieved, these dividers are of no help at all. I strongly recommend purchasing a plastic set and forget these.I would include a description of the positive traits, but they don't redeem the sloppy craftsmanship and total lack of precision, so there really is no reason to discuss the pros. And I 'm not sure there are any.
