Direct competitor to the I3 12100 and 13100, choose AMD for better iGPU.
My targeted use for the AMD 4600g was for a MiniITX based HTPC. For $99 this guy is a beast and was easily one of the best CPUs in this range. Anything cheaper saw sharp reductions in performance. I also paired him with a fairly quality $99 mITX board from gigabyte and the system is overkill for what I needed it for. In 2022 the Intel i3 12100 (The later 13100 is more or less the same in performance and price) really tried to move in on the 4600g's spot. Now in 2023 the price difference is only around $15 and the intel does give a little better cpu performance, but if you were also interested in the gaming performance of the built in iGPU you will find the Vega7 graphics are a bit better. Not only in performance but also at the driver level, the AMD will offer significantly less bugs over intel. If you are looking to pair up with an external graphics card however the intel is probably better. The cost of a MiniITX for the intel will also add an additional $15 at least (And this may go up, I found when I wanted to use some older intel processors in mITX builds the motherboards were all oldstock and significantly marked up). So the final build should you go with AMD should be cheaper, too.

A great CPU for folks on a budget
The Ryzen 5 4600G is a good budget choice for several reasons. 1.) It has an integrated GPU so if you don't want to use a GPU, you don't have to. That being said, you're not getting much better than E-Sports with this integrated GPU. But if that's all you're looking for, then it may be up your alley. 2.) The price. I got mine for $99 flat and that's a great price full stop. 3.) Compatibility. This chip is compatible with many many AM4 motherboards. 4.) The performance. You should see performance that's only about 5% slower than a Ryzen 5 3600. I think you will have a hard time noticing that in 99% of situations. 5.) It sips power. Right now the max I have seen it use a max of 39 watts, and that's at 100% load. So I'm not sure if I need to put it under some sort of synthetic load or something to get it to hit 65W, but it's been really awesome so far. I recommend this processor wholeheartedly for people on a budget. If you can afford a 5600, the 5600X or higher, you should get it since they are faster, have more cache, and support things like PCI Express 4.0. But overall just a really good processor for the money.

Pretty Good At Gaming
So to start this off, when I bought this I was on a deep budget, and when I first got the CPU, I never thought much of it, but over all its really great for the price you pay, I got it for 90$, and its well worth the 90$ maybe 100. So if you want good gaming performance about 60 Frames in a game, it can achieve higher frames up to 100+ in esports or competitive games if that's what your into, just make sure you have a good enough GPU, I personally recommended the AMD Radeon 6700XT, which has great gaming performance for the price, i got mine for 275$ used, or it would be 300$ new at time of purchase for me, 300$ is worth it, any higher not so much, but buy higher on your own will.

Simple but great.
I got this AMD Ryzen 5 4600G processor to build a budget friendly desktop. It has worked out great so far. Super easy to install, the only issue I had was installing the Wraith Stealth Cooler. But this was because of the type of the motherboard I was using. I had to take the old CPU mounting brackets off, and then it went right into the CPU backing plate. I like that by using a Ryzen 5 4600G CPU, I didn't have to spend extra money on a graphics card. Although I have not tested it out with gaming yet, I do suppose it would do ok with some games. Overall its a very good CPU, and for the price, you really cant go wrong when using it to build a decent desktop.

When it works it is great
When the it works, it is great, when it does not, it is a nightmare. When have extra time I either work in the garage or build a computer. Amazon had a great price on an AMD Ryzen 5 4600G (with graphics) and I bought a couple. Note: I use mainly Gigabyte motherboards and preparing for Windows 11 which the 4600G is certified. I like small and 16GB is inexpensive. First was a Gigabyte B450 Aorus and worked fine right off the bat. Did not know at time but already had a late BIOS revision. Next was an MSI ProSeries which I never could even get the fans to turn on. Followed a Gigabyte AB350M-HD3 which at first did noting. Then I found out about BIOS updates. Upgraded the BIOS (using a flashdrive formatted via Rufus with freeDOS, built in Q-flash kept saying "invalid") and suddenly has graphics. Temporarily. Any attempt to boot Windows or Kali resulted in a total shut down after a few cycles. After more hours than sane (some at 3am) finally gave up and used a 3200G in that system. Last attempt was with a Gigabyte A320M-S2H at first NADA but after upgrading the BIOS (specifically said for 4000 series) suddenly everything worked and is now running Windows 11 with no problem. Bottom line, have a 50% success rate with different motherboards (one partial but kept shutting down) but only after many hours of fails and BIOS flashing. Guess there was a reason it is an inexpensive Ryzen 5. Be forewarned, if it does nothing in your new build it probably needs a BIOS update. Raised to a 4 because have gotten three to work now and just the one that kept shutting down had to use a 3200G instead. Besides the required BIOS update, ran into a different problem: one machine had dual monitors byt was only displaying on one. Confusing part was which one kept chaanging depending on KVM setting. Turned out it had the wrong driver but could not uninstall and let it update, had to get latest AMD Radeon derivers and install manually. After restart both monitors worked.

2nd one of these I have purchased in recent months. Good performance for everyday tasks and not too shabby for light gaming. The 1st processor was bought for my daughter's pc as a starter system until she could afford to upgrade. Her PC has now been upgraded with a dedicated GPU. We paired the Ryzen 5 with a budget RX 6600 GPU and it is a surprisingly good all round pairing. The Ryzen 5 seems to be very well balanced in this system and she is able to play the latest games with higher settings and nice and smoothly. As these Ryzen processors are fairly low power drain, the included cooler copes well and you really don't need to spend a fortune upgrading your cooling system.

Processor appears to work well but boot time is very slow but don't know if it is processor or motherboard. Although I do think it is the motherboard
