Good Product
I used this on my wounded chicken, just in case the other birds saw her wound and might have attacked her. I was lucky. They were raised very close together. It is very messy, and your hands and fingers with be coated with purple ink. But it DOES do the job of hiding a wound, and it looks better than the torn skin. My chicken is fine now. But this product DID help, along with other ones that helped her heal.

Blu-Kote spray - Great for pecked birds.
This stuff is great for poultry pecking. It is cheaper at TSC but if you don't live need a TSC this is great. It is not only an antiseptic, but the gentian violet helps to prevent pecking because it turns the feathers and skin purple. I understand this is not to be used on meat birds so check about layers too if you choose this. When my birds are mating Blu-kote is priceless for pecked birds. It doesn't stop cock fighting, but it does stop pecking one spot into looking like raw beef. If you want something which turns off pecking, try the Peck No More. Once the birds get it on their beaks they can't get it off and it must taste awful. It has a purple bubble gum smell which deters pecking. Be sure to wear vinyl gloves when using either product and be careful not to get any one your clothing, shoes or skin. It stains.

Wonderful Bright Purple Med Spray
We love it more than our animals. We've used it on one chicken, livestock guardian pup, and semi-domesticated/semi-feral cat who all suffered some kind of injury on our farm. We sprayed the med on their wounds, which they hated because of the smell and very, very bright purple color, but it kept their wounds from getting infected. For example, our hen was probably attacked by a fox and had a large piece of flesh hanging from her body. We thought for sure she was going to die, especially when the other chickens started pecking at her injury. We sprayed the med on her wound (which other chickens hated to go near because of the smell and color), let her rest for a week, and she was back to normal about a week or two later. It was a miracle! Warning, wear gloves when using this product. The med will stain, and you'll have bright purple color on your skin for a very long time. It does not wash off easily.

animals animals animals but use only for horses ponys and dogs.
i knew it stained but wow. it really does stain. definitely dont use on your new white bathroom sink. i bought the bigger bottle and it says "for horses ponys and dogs" which i was not really happy with because article information just says "animals animals animals" and reviews mentioned poultry so i through i might try. tested it on my face (mind you youre not supposed to use for humans idk why maybes its the stain thing) and it cleared up an infected wound nicely. I have yet to trust this on my birds wound on his foot. im diluting it but uh. well see how it goes and hope it works. so if you have a horse or a pony or a dog. yeah buy it. as long as you dont mind blue fingers for days. or use gloves. dont spray on dog and then let the dog in the house and on your white sofa its gonna be a white and blue sofa from then on along with the ktichen floor the bathroom floro and anything else like your jeans who will then have a dark blue stain on the thigh. poultry i mean. if you trust the other reviews. small animals? no. i personally would look for something else.

It works!
We bought this to help heal our dogs lick granuloma on his leg. He just wouldn't leave the area alone no matter what antiseptic and bandages we tried, so when someone suggested this item to us we decided to try it out. It does make a make a mess , so we had to go outside to use it or apply in the kitchen with newspaper under our dogs leg. My husband devised a cardboard cutout to use so we can target his exact wound without getting any of his for so it doesn't stain our furniture. The Blue Koat has stopped him from licking the leg and facilitated healing, so his fur has grown back over the wound margins and It is almost closed now! I can't believe how well this has worked.

She's half purple, but she lives!
Absolutely incredible on our backyard chicken after fly strike. I honestly thought we were going to lose her. We used this, epsom salt baths, and an insecticidal spray. This stuff is fantastic. The weird blue color kept other chickens from bothering Summer while healing. She's happily running around with her sisters right now, with her purple-stained bottom.
