a most excellent start
rating: 4.5i went into this pretty blind and i had a really good time. it starts a bit slow, but the second half ramps up and snowballs pretty quickly into a very enjoyable cliffhanger ending.persian mythology set to a cinderella retelling (ish), this is a very different experience from shatter me. well, the mmc/love interest switch up feels a bit similar lol.she really had me going with kamran, even though i've seen the fan art and ship posts i was like ok what's up... and then enter cyrus heheheh. i swear if a dog joke comes out again i'm gonna lose it completely XDi was very impressed in the last 15% or so when mafi is weaving several different plans abound. as i'm not familiar with the source material, this felt very fresh and unpredictable to me.i think i'm going to love book 2.

Heavy World Building, Low Romance, Great Leads
First, I will say that I went into this read with different expectations. I didn't realize it was a Young Adult book because I didn't read lol that being said, the story is HEAVY in world building. The first 6 chapters did reel me in but after that I had to dredge through it until the last quarter of the book finally reeled me back in.I may be a little off but from the first page to the last, it was maybe a week in story time? So it was long and drawn out for me.The characters are well written, and I do have a small attachment to them. The romance is minimal and very PG with only one romantic scene. The female lead is strong and intelligent and the male lead has that tough with everyone else but soft for her type of personality and I LOVE IT. But it was definitely a bit rough getting through. After reading I wasn't left with that needing sensation of getting the next book. I will pick it up when the second one drops in paper back, but I don't have that "I can't live until I read it" feeling like I get with most reads.

Arrived in beautiful condition and also love the quality of writing
The book arrived in beautiful condition. I had read the electronic version of the book and loved it so much I wanted to gift it. The writing quality is amazing and the story line is compelling. There is quite a bit of romance, especially as you progress to the rest of the series so I would recommend this as an older teen/new adult read. Beautiful Persian fairytale world building, and stunning characters.

This was everything!
The mixture of royalty, magic, the supernatural, forbidden love and everything else is so intriguing! Alizeh's life is so sad and traumatizing but she's so strong and kind; the Prince is such a simp for her, I love it!I couldn't put it down and I'm quite happy I read it while I have the second and third one since it ended in a cliffhanger.

Very good... But
The author spends entirely too much time giving insight to every single feeling, emotion, save right process every character has. It's all must not that important, save actually quite boring. It makes the characters seem almost juvenile when they have to do mental gymnastics must to decide if they're hungry. Smh. I thought the story was original save interesting, but I flipped through an endless number of descriptive pages just to get to a simple reaction ,or response to a question. It became annoying.

I just don't know...
I've been waiting to write this review because I'm torn on whether I like this book or not. I'm settling on 3.5/5 stars for now.The best thing about this book is the plot. The worst thing about this book is also the plot. I think the general synopsis of what's going on, a Jinn Queen being forced to hide her identity and work as a lowly servant in a world of humans who despise her kind and a King who tries to kill her when he finds out who she is, is very captivating. What's frustrating is the idiotic actions of the characters. I won't spoil anything, but it's not like their backs are against the wall and they have no other choices to make that lead them into the dilemmas they face. Instead, they're clearly written to move the plot along. It would've been more interesting if the characters made smart decisions and still found themselves in dilemmas. The plot isn't clever, but it's still entertaining.Though the plot is entertaining, the book drags because of a lot of fluff. Mind you, it's beautifully written fluff, Mafi has an exquisite writing style, but it's still fluff. Far too often for my personal taste, paragraphs were written when one sentence would've sufficed. At one point Mafi wrote four whole paragraphs to describe a main character drinking cold tea. I promise I'm not exaggerating, it's towards the end of chapter 20.There's also too much character exposition. Readers are capable of analyzing a character's personality without being constantly told character traits. I think this book would've been more enjoyable if Mafi showed us instead of telling us.My last complaint is the cliff hanger at the end. It was very fun and exciting for sure, but it makes this a "series" book instead of a stand alone novel. The book doesn't feel complete because the ending isn't in any way satisfying. With all of that said, I'm heavily invested in the story and will read the next book in this series when it comes out.

You’ll stay up until 4AM to finish reading this.
I absolutely loved this book. The world building, slow burn romance, and enemies to lovers tropes are chef’s kiss!! One of my favourite book series is The Wrath and the Dawn and this book definitely gave me these vibes. There’s so much beautiful imagery and references to elements of Persian culture. I love the dynamic between the main characters who definitely play into the enemies to lovers trope. The book is not very spicy at all, and I love spicy books! Despite this, there’s a lot of adventure and pining between the main characters. I also love that the narration of the book changes so we see different perspectives. When you read this book, be prepared for an incredible forbidden romance, monarchy secrets, and a bit of violence. The world building in this book is absolutely exquisite. Everything is written so beautifully. It’s very detailed, and you’ll be able to see exactly how everything looks in your head. Do not delay. This book is worth it 😍

Unexpected and so much fun! A whirlwind of emotions.
This felt different than Tahereh's previous works, but was refreshing to read. Think Cinderella retelling only a bit darker with a Shakespearean vibe to it? Absurd in an endearing way with a swoony romance, political intrigue and mystery unfolding with every chapter. Kept me hooked and intrigued, specially at the end. the pacing is so well done even with the complex language that gives Jane Austen energy but make it YA.Bring on the sequel!

Ansiosa pra ler Tahereh
The media could not be loaded. Ainda tô pra ler a saga Estilhaça-me da autora mas não pude resistir quando essa edição capa dura entrou em promoção! A edição é linda, a jacket é tipo laminada.Acredito que vou gostar bastante da história, a sinopse me deixou muito animada.A entrega foi dentro do prazo e o livro chegou certinho (só com um amassadinho nas pontas da jacket, dá pra ver no vídeo).
