Why did you pick this product vs others?: Best plates on the market, that I've encountered. Buying more soon Sharpener quality: top Durability: 1000's of knives sharpened in a year for local chefs. From soft Japanese knives to high carbon steel German knives Works well: Best for removing metal in a controlled fashion (non-grinder)/creating initial edge for hard metal blades. Flatness: doesn't wear down giving warped results. Thickness: Perfect for the job

I initially experienced some frustration trying to use these stones / plates. I was trying to sharpen a very cheap Harbor Freight plane iron to break in the plates and just couldn't get it to abrade on the coarse stone. As a last ditch effort, I sent an email to Best Sharpening Stones, the seller, and they got back to me the very same day. Even asked if I would send a phone number so they could call me. They also provided some details and information on sharpening that helped me out a ton. Really excellent customer service experience for me. I couldn't recommend them enough. Even if you're not going to buy these diamond plates, but some other sort of sharpening stone, I would definitely recommend you buy from this company. After I received a bit more instruction and a bit more information, the stones really started working much better. The issue was user error and knowledge based as opposed to product based. Mine were very flat and consistent out of the box. No issues with fit or finish there. Nice weight, decent little holder for the stones and they seem to work quite well. I'm no expert, but they're definitely a step up from the smaller composite DMT "stones" I had purchased before. I wish I'd just gone with these stones from Best Sharpening earlier. Live and learn.

These work extremely well and definitely very quickly. I have tried several different stones for sharpening and even have a very nice Tormek machine that is good for many applications. I bought these specifically for sharpening plane irons after watching a video on sharpening by Paul Sellers. I had never sharpened free hand before, and I was a bit nervous about trying it, so I experimented with a cheaper iron I figured I wouldn't use much anyway. After a little practice (very little) I am getting much better with it and I am having excellent results with that cheap iron. So much so that I haven't sharpened the Hock Tools iron I intended to use in its place. I'll wait for that until I am much more proficient at free hand. The holder exceeded my expectations by a mile. I was hoping to buy this set without it in order to save some money, but it is fantastic. It holds the plates securely and "sticks" to the surface you set it on to do your sharpening. It doesn't move or shift one little bit at all. All I can say about the seller is that I had absolutely no problems whatsoever. My purchase was processed and delivered quickly and without a hitch. I recommend this set without reservation. 100% completely satisfied.

I bought this set of three stones as a Christmas present to myself. I have used various natural stones for sharpening knives, with less that ideal success, so I decided to try these. The quality of the stones is excellent and they look like they will last. In retrospect, I probably should have only bought the medium and fine stones, as the coarse one is very rough and I probably won't be using it at all. I use the fine stone most of the time. On the initial use, it seems to be a little rough, but it quickly smoothed out and now gives a good edge with minimal effort. I apply water with a dab of detergent as lubricant, and rinse the stone off when done. That seems to do as well as a honing oil and a lot less mess. The surface of the stone has discolored a bit, but I think that may be due to fine steel particles from the blade of the knives and not the nickel substrate of the stone. Overall, pleased with the stones, but they are definitely expensive, so you decide whether the quality is worth it.
