Makes unbelievably creamy mashed potatoes!
My mom used to have a potato ricer, but I’ve never been particularly tempted to get one, because I don’t have a lot of hand strength and have achy joints. I didn’t want to try to squeeze one that was designed like a giant garlic press. Then I discovered the Joseph Joseph potato ricer, which uses a twisting motion instead of a squeezing motion. I’ve liked all of the other products I’ve ordered from this brand (the spoons and turners with built-in rests to keep them off the counter are genius!) so i gave it a go.This produces creamy, smooth mashed potatoes, and the twist-together parts allow you to use your entire upper body strength to twist them together. It doesn’t cause any pain at all in my thumb joints or hands! I think I’m guilty of overloading it a little, since sometimes the potatoes squeeze out the top where the two pieces join, but that’s probably just user error.I rinse mine immediately after use, so can’t comment on how hard it might be to clean if you let the potatoes dry in all the little holes. It rinses out easily and I’ve never had to poke potato bits out of individual holes. The only difficult part is figuring out where to store it. It doesn’t fit in my utensil caddy (way too big and too-heavy) and I don’t have a ton of storage space in my kitchen. Still, no regrets!

Good one!
Why did you pick this product vs others?:I bought this to replace a third or fourth iteration of potato mashers; and its the best I have used. Works easily and produces very good mashed potatoes. I have replaced other good ones (and one bad one that took too much strength), andlike this one the best.

Don't peel your potatoes. Cut in half and steam.
Don't peel your potatoes. Cut them in half. Steam them until mashable. Put cut side down and twist. Pick the peel out with a fork. Next tater. Sometimes I only need to pull out the peel every 3-4 potatoes if it sticks to the plunger side. Guaranteed perfect mashed potatoes with so much less work. Just add a little salt and cream.

Good but not great
Nice ricer. Overall this ricer is nice but its not great. It easy to use but I didn't find any easier or harder than the other ricers I tried. I've tried the ones with the round "cup" and exchangeable discs and the triangular looking ones. This one is way easier to use compared to the round/"cup" ones, but no easier than the triangular ones I've tried. What I didn't like about it is the capacity, which was smaller than the triangular ones I tried and the holes you squeeze stuff through as they were at least double the size of the triangular ones. The fact that the top can come off/away from the bottom is good and bad. Good in that it makes cleaning easier and bad because you have two pieces to track.

Absolute pleasure!!
Listen to me. You will never get easier, faster, better results mashing potatoes with any other device! This is truly an investment in your body, time, and cooking! The quality is phenomenal—the fitment is perfect with no sticking or straining! It goes in the dishwasher too! It is lightweight with a perfect plastic texture that is neither slippery nor sticky. It’s shameful how long I knew this existed before actually purchasing!

Useful in MANY Areas of Cooking! Large, easy to use!
This was a whole lot bigger than I had initially expected it to be. I don’t think it would be too much of a bad thing, as it seems to be a solid device that runs quite smooth. The color is easy in the eyes. I can do potatoes or mash cauliflower or garlic after garlic confit (the cooked garlic, itself). I’ve kept my eye on this for years. I am so happy I now have it! This will certainly be put into use.

We use this nightly
Just peel a whole clove and then throw it in here. It can usually fit 2 to 4 depending on the size and give it a twist and it grinds the garlic for you. It is perfect.

Looks good, doesn't work well. Hardened plastic warps/chips/breaks easily.
This product failed within a month of purchase, Joseph Joseph hasn't responded to the warranty claim and it's outside of the window to return it to Amazon. I really wanted to like this since it's a cool design, but it's just not functional, durable, or efficient, so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.MAJOR DRAWBACK -- MATERIAL QUALITY / DURABILITY:The juicer cup is the ONLY part that is metal on this, so the plastic it's VERY prone to warping/chipping/breaking under standard use pressure. There's only two little 1/4 inch plastic nubs that are the single point of failure as you follow the track rotating and squeezing the juicer, and they warp very easily, making compressing the juice out difficult because it falls off the track and becomes a piece of junk.DRAWBACK -- SIZE:It's oddly very large to fit in the drawer, but even with it's huge girth, you have to cut up your fruit into little pieces (1/4 lime segments or 1/8 lemons) to fit in the metal compression cup.DRAWBACK -- AMOUNT OF JUICE:I was also really surprised that it actually doesn't get that much juice out of the fruit!!! I re-squeeze every piece with my hand after putting something through the Helix and got about 30% more juice out of it. Also, if you have to cut your fruit into tiny segments 1/4 segments to fit in the juicer cup why bother using this device? Just squeeze the juice out with your fingers -- you'll get more out of it and waste less time and not have to clean another utensil.MAJOR DRAWBACK -- POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WARRANTY SUPPORT:Amazon says Joseph Joseph has a warranty on their products (mine failed after a month of use, after only squeezing about 6 limes in it), and I followed the Amazon recommended process, but Joseph Joseph hasn't responded to multiple messages requesting Warranty Support.THE FINAL VERDICT:I really wanted to like this, but it's not strong enough/functional/high quality enough materials to do the job. If this was all metal, it might work. But metal on plastic under torsional pressure doesn't work, and you don't even get that much juice out of it! So it's a pretty device, but not functional and it takes up a lot of drawer space for being so awkwardly large and not serving it's single-purpose well.
