Improved Over Previous Generations & Impressive For This Price Range
I purchased the iMT620 to replace the iM500 which had a rather large number of miles on it and finally gave out. After reading the reviews here for the iMT620 as well as being satisfied with the previous generation, i gave it a go.I must agree with the positive reviews this unit has received and would ad/expound on a few items:1. The design has been much improved overall.2. The handle is a nice feature which, when folded to the storage position, turns the unit off.3. This unit is more stable overall when sitting on a surface, due to its shorter/wider design.4. Charges the iPod only when the unit is running in the AC mode.5. The storage for the remote control holds the remote firmly.6. An easy to operate unit, buttons are large and well marked.7. Decent sound at low and high volume.5. An excellent value for quality and sound for the price. That said, if you're an audiophile (like me) don't buy this unit if you're expecting to be blown away with fantastic sound (the Sony RDP- 300 is much much better). Altec Lansing does a very respectable job for a unit in this price range. It does a nice job on mid and high end reproduction, however the bass is a bit lacking. To get the most you can out of this unit for the low end frequencies, place the unit on a flat surface near a wall...not against but near. This helps reflect the sound and will improve low end reproduction. It's not a room filling big sound but for its price range, it's darn respectable, having heard more expensive units sound much less dynamic. Altec did improve the sound over previous generation I had and I was rather impressed, considering.I purchased this as a replacement and it generally follows me outdoors while working in the field/garden or small outdoor gatherings. So this unit will get a lot of outdoor miles. I'll try to report back after I've put it through some work to see how well it fares.I think you'll be pleased with it at this price range.UPDATE:Recently the unit was placed on the charger after use and failed to turn on. There was no electrical storm and no power surges. I can only surmise that the unit had a bad power supply. Sent a note to Amazon and they promptly sent a return shipping label. Since it was fulfilled by Amazon, they could not do an exchange because they couldn't guarantee stock of the item. So they suggested that I simply buy it again. Received a quick refund on my card and repurchased the unit. When I initially contacted the manufacturer, I found out that Altec Lansing has now been sold to a corporation in China! This older unit is warranty supported by what is left of the U.S. company...but who knows for how long. So if you're looking for a new Altec Lansing, it's now made in China. Caveat emptor! The quality of new Altec products likely just took a severe nose dive. Amazon did a good job about standing behind the product so for Amazon, two thumbs up.Natural Nick's Producefacebook.com/naturalnicksprodcefacebook.com/natural.nick

A fantastic bargain...you can't lose with this unit!
I can't say enough good things about this stereo unit. It is very well and thoughtfully put together. The sound is awesome for such a small, compact stereo. It has an FM tuner as well as an iPod dock, but I just use it with an iPod. The tuner works well enough, but is not high quality (I would say it has a low signal capture ratio), but what do you expect at this price. It has two 3" full range speakers that cover midrange and high frequencies beautifully. The speakers are not ported and therefore they appear to be air suspension, but provide good bass reproduction for such small speakers. They do not provide deep bass reproduction, but the overall sound is very satisfying. I have had it for about 3-4 weeks and use it for quiet listening at night (it is not meant to fill a room with sound in a party atmosphere). The sound is well balanced and warm and surprisingly airy and the separation of instruments is startling. On several occasions I have had to put my book down as I could not believe the quality of sound coming from the speakers. For the price it can't be beat. A friend heard mine and is getting one for themselves. We plan to use this stereo when we travel as it is light and compact, provides great sound and lets me hear my favourite jazz station (Jazz.FM) anywhere in the world thru my iPod. I also have a Bose iPod docking station that cost almost 4 times as much (and weighs a lot more) and this little stereo sounds just as good as the Bose...maybe even better (Bose has more bass, but does not reproduce high frequencies as well as Altec unit and overall the iMT620 has a better balanced, warmer and more natural sound). I am a very satisfied customer. Thanks Altec Lansing!

Great product for the price range
This is a fantastic little radio for the price. Don't expect to get Bose quality sound, but! It does sound real nice for the price range. (and, I'll be honest, I first purchased the Bose sound dock portable, and if I were to rate that, it wasn't worth the money! It was nice, it was clear sounding, but not worth $400.00- it actually didn't sound quite as clear in my home as in the store, and especially less volume outdoors played loudly- but what do you want out of a single speaker? again, very nice, just not worth that much money).So- back to this little guy- the remote is awesome. I hate touching the iPod because it's sitting in a dock and you feel like you shouldn't push on it without supporting it. This remote has many functions (more than the Bose...ok, back to this one :) and even has a neat little notch out of the back to slide the remote into when not in use so you always know where it is!It does have a radio function, I don't use it though. Also has the aux port to connect other MP3 players. It does charge the iPod while docked and plugged in to the wall charger, it does not charge when portable (not plugged in to the wall charger).Bottom line- great product. I bought one for my mom as well. I use it when I'm on my treadmill and the volume and clarity are just fine. Lightweight, easy to carry. Great for use as background music while casually entertaining outdoors or in. While working in the garage or in the same room as you have the device in the house- a good kitchen companion while cooking. If you're having a dance party, hire a DJ- otherwise, great little device.I would recommend it to anyone.

The second day I tried to use it, while the I-pod was playing if the antenna was touched it buzzed loudly with static as if the radio was somehow on. The display flashed wildly form one display to another. Very disappointing. I had a previous similar ALTEC LANSING I-pod dock that worked quite well for three years.

Not happy
Very disappointed with it. It won't hold a charge so needs to be plugged in. And radio turns on by itself
