Acronis True Image 2017 - 5 Computer

The Amazon image is deceiving. You don't get a box. You get an optical disc taped in an official Acronis sleeve with the product 'short-key' on the back. I recommend you login to your acronis.com account, then enter the short key at the acronis url mentioned on the back of the sleeve into your account. From there, download the latest build of Acronis 2017 and don't bother using the included disc.This product does need Internet for activation, and can be installed on 3 different computers at once. Thankfully, Acronis makes it easy to deactivate as well so you can move between computers if you upgrade something or need it on a different computer when all your activations are used up.As for the software itself, it works well. It is the full version of the Acronis backup software that is distributed on many hard drive manufacture websites. With this version you can schedule backups at various intervals, and restore either the whole image or particular files in the same or different locations you desire. Acronis.com also provides a bootable iso that allows you to boot from the iso to restore from a backup when the computer is not able to enter Windows.If you don't need advanced cloud features or other interconnected tools, you really don't need the 'latest and greatest' version. This does what you need it to, so getting this version saves you some money. If you decide later that you do want the latest and greatest, Acronis offers an upgrade discount for the latest version.

I bought a 5 license pack of this backup software back in July of 2017 to replace the Softwarethat came with a 4-Terabyte Western Digital Cloud Storage Drive [NAS]. WHAT A MISTAKE!I have had nothing but problems with this over-complected software since day one..*Failed Backups*Completed Backups That Don't Validate*Endless And Sometimes Useless Documentation*Difficult To Understand GUI Interface* Etc., Etc., Etc.I hate it with a passion; and I certainly wouldn't recommend it unless you want to havenon-stop aggravation. I would actually argue that most people will be screwed when itcomes to do a restore; because I have my doubts if this backup software even works!Save yourself some money and pain. Just go to your system "Control Panel", click on"Backup And Restore", then "Create System Image", and choose your backup device or drive.Thats It. Done Deal. You now have a FULL reliable Image Backup of your entire PC.Easy as 1 - 2 - 3. Don't waste your time and money on this ridiculous - unreliable softwarelike I did..

I spent all morning (3.5 hours) installing the software.The installation went smoothly and took all of 2 minutes but license activation took 3.5 hours, a chat session with customer support and many unfruitful downloads and installs, several searches and more time wasted checking out windows firewall and router settings. The problem as it turned out is poor documentation on Acronis part. My wasted time could have been avoided if I know the following information (or was told this information when I contact customer service):1. Purchaser is given a partial serial "number" needed to activate license(s). He must: Create an account with Acronis; Register his partial serial number. A complete serial number will be displayed in his account and emailed to him. This is what he must enter into the activation window.2. My purchased version (True Image 2017) has a bug that prevented the whole serial number to be typed in.I downloaded the patch to fix issue #2 explained above, install the software and activate it without any issue.I had been using it for a few days and I'm happy with its performance. The tool interface is simple, intuitive and I have no problem. I find it working as advertised.

I used the Acronis cloud product for a year. Acronis disabled this product, when I failed to renew my cloud option. When they disabled it, I mean they wouldn't even let me do local backups. Their cloud offering was pretty much useless, given bandwidth limitations I kept experiencing and only token storage capacity (unless I wanted to buy more). Therefore I opted to revert to a simple local disk based backup. What could go wrong? I'll even give them another go by ordering just the basic local disk storage option CD.The Acronis True Image 2017 CD arrived from Amazon and I tried to install it. It would not install saying that I already had an Acronis product, the cloud product that had expired. OK, let's uninstall it.Nope, Acronis uninstall said it was already gone. What? Nope, it's still there... OK, google "How do I uninstall Acronis 2016".... OMG, I get a link to the Acronis webpage that supplies a script you have to download and run (start->run, etc.). The next YGBSM moment was when they instructed me to go into RegEdit to also remove errant key settings. WTF????? At least I now know this has happened to others...I edit the registry and then try a fresh install from CD. The install procedure sat at the Status time-bar for over an hour with no progress. Perhaps theres a bad copy on CD. So I download 2017 from the website. It does the same thing. Perhaps, I think, I need to rerun the script and remove all vestiges of Acronis (again), no matter how small.Nope, Nada, no glory, no relief.I'm a retired IT professional. I've been putzing around with Microsoft since damn near day 1. I have never experienced a product that I couldn't remove, replace, or reinstall. Until now.1. I'm irritated that they disabled local backups when I didn't opt to renew cloud coverage.2. I'm stunned that they have such a complex, and hidden, script to remove the product and edit the Registry. Seriously, have customers get into the Registry?!? What are you thinking?????? What could go wrong?????????3. I'd like to install this and move on. But, I feel that I have wasted money on a non-functional product.I'm going to try and return this, now opened, CD envelope. What are the odds this is gonna work out in my favor?Stay away from True Image 2017. There are some issues here.
