Good product, very good price/value, helpful and handy to have in drawer at desk. If I had it to do again, I would look for a 7X magnifier.

In ancient times you could subscribe to the Book-of-the-Month club and get the two-volume version of the magnificent Oxford English Dictionary, with each page of that venerable work shrunk to quarter-size and printed on each page of the new edition. It came in a dark-blue slipcover which had a little drawer up top with a rectangular magnifying glass in it -- you needed it to read the tiny print. Fast forward 40 years or so, and the OED, now in its second edition, is available online; the BOMC has apparently re-invented itself a few times but is still a going concern. The magnifier, however, is long gone. My own somehow got away from me some years ago, so I bought this one to replace it. It's a sturdy and useful magnifier, equally good for scrutinizing the details of a medieval manuscript hand and deciphering the fine print on a package. Now that I'm getting old and my eyes, apparently having decided that they've seen enough, are getting dim and fuzzy, I find it to be more and more useful. And the reminder of my student days when I toted around my giant two-volume OED is a pleasant bonus.

Ordered what looks to be the same magnifier a while back, 3X magnification , found that it's not strong enough for our needs. Would be fine for reading , your Bible , a book or magazine , but not enough for small and tiny print . Just received this from Amazon and it's a go , 5X will do the job . Decent quality . Glass lens.

Perfect! A certain national tool store chain used to have these a couple of years ago, with the real glass lenses like this one, but since has replaced the lens with a "funhouse mirror" low quality plastic lens. Well look no further, this item is just like that original. Is heavier, since the lens is glass, which is great. That is how you can tell, along with the optical quality of the lens being great. Magnification isn't great, but does the job if what you are after is reading the fine print on the label of just about any product these days. Ha even the frickin EXPIRATION DATE on many food products is too small to read (and printed in grey or black) without one of these. Recommended! I just bought four more.

This is very useful when magnification is needed for reading etc. the rectangular shape works better than the round. When a relative saw it they wanted it, so I bought myself another one.

Sturdy and heavy but I seriously doubt it is 5x power. Maybe 2x or 3x. It does permit reading extremely fine print on drug use instructions, recipes, and Government mandated warnings.

Wow, I forgot all about this purchase. I see it now comming up to review! What I use this for? Very important work. I have a YouTube channel called Alpine Forensics Locating. What I've come to love, as far as the protocols and proceedures I've developed, is to examine high magnification photographs on my 4k 27 inch monitor, zoomed in, and then I take this magnifying glass to zoom in even further. It is an integral part of my work, looking for human remains in wilderness areas with long distance photography.

I think this is that "standard design" that has been around forever, and if you use one, you'll see (ha) why. My old one lasted a 20 years until I dropped it on concrete so it broke. Fortunately they are still available here. Get one. As I write this, I realize that I need another one so I'm ordering it now.

Simply a great magnifier that is clear and crisp with no distortions in the glass used. It's the second of this kind of design that I have owned and I highly recommend it as the price is also very reasonable as well.
