Wondetful short story. It's a cute little book form the penguin short black classics edition with a beautiful story that is funny and hearbreaking. First time reading feom this author, and became a huge fan of his work. I also bought 'The Brothers Karamazov' which is written by the same author.

such a melancholic and deeply romantic tale, perfect for a dreamy, emotional aesthetic. A tender, twilight-swept love story between a lonely dreamer and a young woman in St. Petersburg. It's soaked in bittersweet emotions—fleeting connection, unfulfilled longing, delicate intimacy, and beautiful sadness. “I am a dreamer. I know so little of real life that I just can't help re-living such moments as these in my dreams.” “Why, oh why had fate brought us together only to separate us? Why had it awakened such love, such happiness, only to take it all away?”

A surprisingly small-sized book, lean read! The size made it easy for me to finish the book within a day. A great option for those looking to sample classic authors that are typically hard to read, as it requires commitment and the right headspace to absorb and appreciate their writing. Happy reading!

I just finished White Nights by Dostoevsky, and wow—this little book packs a punch. It's a short read, but it perfectly captures loneliness, hope, and heartbreak in just a few pages. The story follows a dreamy, introverted guy who meets a girl during St. Petersburg’s “white nights” (when the sun barely sets), and they form a deep but fleeting connection. If you’ve ever been lost in your own thoughts or had a love that didn’t last, this one will hit home. The writing is poetic and emotional, making you really feel for the main character. The Penguin Little Black Classics edition is also great—compact, stylish, and easy to carry around. The only downside? Some people have received copies with minor damage, but mine arrived just fine. If you’re into classic literature and don’t mind a little melancholy, I highly recommend this book. It's a quick but powerful read!
