Florian Bates is a 12-year-old is often torn between finishing his homework or helping the FBI. The latter comes from his TOAST procedure -- Theory of All Small Things. He notices what others often miss. So does his new friend, Margaret. He's just moved with his folks to Washington D.C. from travels around the world. He's endearing as a funny hero, and Margaret's perfect as his partner in solving crimes. This book, 1st in the series, deals with the art world. It's clever, engrossing and has lots of unexpected twists and turns. Couldn't put it down. Mr. Ponti is an excellent writer. He knows kids. Doesn't write down to them. And he makes being smart electric. Highly recommended (from a senior citizen!).

"Framed! (A T.O.A.S.T. Mystery) by James Ponti is a tightly woven story about art museum heists, the FBI and a very observant middle schooler. Florian Bates is a very well defined and likable character. His observation skills earn him a place on the FBI investigation of the theft of several masterpieces. Florian's best friend, Margaret, joins him on this adventure as he teaches her the significance of TOAST, Theory of all Small Things. I loved the warm relationships of the characters and look forward to the continuation of this series. This book has challenged me to work on my observation skills. James Ponti is a very astute writer who knows how to connect to the reader.
