I live Golden State items. There is a great variety of shapes, sizes, & colors. Also, the prices can’t be beat. The glass is quality. This is my third purchase from Golden State! My highest recommendation.

Let me begin by saying i am a professional photographer who prints, mats and frames his own work. I bought these frames as a test to see if I could use them instead of continuing to make my own frames. I compared to another Amazon-sold frame and found this to be the better of the two, but there are still some limitations.The Good:This frame has a great feel to it - very smooth and solid black.Real wood construction instead of composite wood product.Real glass in frame - not polycarbonate which scratches easily.Comes with a nice smooth white mat. As a bonus, there is an extra mat cut with multiple windows for presenting a "picture package" of multiple smaller images if you like that sort of thing. The 8x12 mat is packaged in a separate cellophane wrapper, but the sticky strip which closes this wrapper is on the flap - meaning if you're not careful it will stick to and mar the mat surface as you extract the mat. Sticky strip should be on the back of the wrapper instead.Mounting hangars on the backer board rather than sawtooth hangers which are banned by most galleries.The So-So:Packaging is good, but could be improved. The frame is in a box with Styrofoam bumpers on each corner, but there is nothing protecting the glass itself except thin cardboard. I ordered multiple frames, so they were all packaged together in a larger box and arrived intact, but a single frame shipped this way would almost certainly be damaged. I'd hesitate to ship framed art in this packaging.The Bad:The backer plate on this is held in place with swivel points, which need to fit into slots on the inside of the frame to hold the piece together. The trouble is that the slots are cut without regard to mounting the art properly. I mounted my photo on 1/8" foamcore and couoldn't close the turn points once it was installed in the frame. I then mounted the art to a spare piece of matboard (1/16" or so) and then assembled the glass, mat, art and backer mat, then finally the backer plate with the turn points and was barely able to secure it all together. I actually had to use an exacto knife to carve new slots in the frame inside edge to make this fit. IT appears the manufacturers expect the art to be taped to the back of the mat board with no real backing at all.Of the two brands of frames that I purchased, I like this one better. It provides a clean professional look that will go well in my gallery and has a good price point, allowing me to keep my resale prices lower. The biggest problem is the thickness of the backer board and this could be easily resolved by the manufacturer by including a piece of standard foamcore in the package. I can make it work with a bit of jiggering, but I shouldn't have to improvise.
