My wife picked up a deer tick in our garden last week, and I removed it with the "Tick Ease" tweezers that I bought years ago. It worked fine, and I removed the whole tick and all of its mouth parts (don't twist the head off!), but these tweezers are a bit too big to take on hikes, so I started searching for something smaller. After extensive research, I finally settled on this product, SCS Ltd's "Pro-tick Remedy." Although I haven't had another tick to remove with it yet, I'm very pleased with it. It's simple, small, and foolproof; and I could use it to remove a tick from myself, anywhere on my body, simply by feel. It comes with a color tick identification card (press in at the perforations on the back of the package to separate that), an intelligently written, detailed and informative paper on tick identification, biology, removal, and treatment. It also says that Permethrin 0.5% is the only product that stops ticks dead. If you treat your socks and pants with 0.5% Permethrin, a tick should receive a lethal dose while it crosses the treated fabric. You can buy Permethrin clothing/fabric spray in some stores or online. I read some comments criticizing the thinness of the metal, and the quality of the 5x plastic magnifying glass that comes with the Pro-tick Remedy, but I think those criticisms are unwarranted. The metal seemed sturdy enough and thick enough to me. If they made it too thick, you wouldn't be able to slide it under a nymph-stage tick's body. The magnifying glass was fine, too. I used an expensive, 10x magnifier when I removed my wife's tick, because I wanted to be able to see exactly where I was grasping the tick (you want to grab them at their "dorsal shield"). You also want to inspect the bite site after you remove it, to make sure you removed all of the mouth parts. If not, you'll need fine-tipped tweezers, such as Majestic Bombay's surgical tweezers for ingrown hair, to remove the mouth parts. I bought a set of these too, but they are needle-points and it would be easy to stab yourself if you're not careful. I certainly wouldn't want to risk using surgical tweezers to remove a tick from a dog. The 5x plastic magnifier that comes with it is just fine, and I'm perfectly content with it. It's light, thin, and comes attached to the removal tool with a small ball chain. Me-thinks some people doth criticize too much about naught. So to summarize, I'm really happy with the Pro-tick Remedy. They're only $10 each, so I bought two--one for home, and one to take on hikes. Thanks SCS Ltd, for developing and selling them!

This is the best tick remover I have ever had! It's nice and thin to get the itty bitty ticks that have started to dig in. Nice size to put in your pocket or purse. Well priced. It doesn't take long for ticks to back out with gentle, constant, pressure. I have one on each key chain for those times I forgot to bring it with me. I give these as gifts to new dog owners.

This is the best and easiest tick remover ever! Even for very small ticks.

Very easy to use. I’ve used it a ton this year on my 2 hounds because the ticks were crazy this June! The easiest tool I’ve found to extract a tick-and it gets the ticks mouthparts out every time. I keep one in my car, house, and hiking bag. I’m not good at getting ticks out with tweezers, so this has been a godsend.
