Pet Shop Boys ~ Alternative

Pet Shop Boys best next to Results,Reputation,Crying Game
Their albums are always splendid, but I love these insightful Alternative(format and Disco series) cd's even more. One gets a glimpse of the times that they were made. What could be an A-side, what could not. What could be on an album, what could not. It's as if the industry indulged in self-censorship to appease its evil overseers; probably rightfully so, though quite maddenning. I don't think Your Funny Uncle would have gotten much airplay,or A Man Could Get Arrested, or the Kurt Wiell or Stephen Soundheim songs, eventhough they are great. The Sound of the Atom Splitting, which is truly marvelous dada-ism may not have made it even to Dr Demento's radio show. Be thankful that times have changed, somewhat. There is an an 2cd Alternative #2. It contains the Truck Driver and His Mate. It is titled FORMAT. It was released this year,2012.favorite cuts=You Know Where You Went Wrong(You Know),Jack the Lad,Violence,Decadence,Was That What It Was,Don Juan,We All Feel Better in the Dark...all the others what the heck! The mixes and production are mostly from the 80's, so beware to you younger chippies, there is no M&M style hip hop or house here. Just pure alternative sounds. A joyful noise.ps Thanks LOL. Lol,beautiful minion of the god of the north wind, sent to melt the icy heart of Snegrotchka, the snow maiden.Rimsky Korsakov.

This album never gets old
I have always loved this album but the only thing is every one else does too I have had to buy it about four times because I magically disappears stolen again which is why I don't let anyone borrow any of my cds or vinyl records anymore I lost too many over the years.

Wonderful music!
I usually couldn't be bothered to write reviews but I want to share my glee at finding this gem. I read other reviews before purchasing this CD and I always take them with a grain of salt but with this one they were right. Many of the songs on this CD could have been singles in their own right. I am a real PSB fan but I was even surprised to find almost every song a keeper. I especially liked "I want a dog" and the only one I didn't care for was "The sound of the atom splitting". All in all you get 30 songs for $4 to $5 that are true to the original PSB sound. For your information, I found a great way to stumble upon good music like this while on the internet. Download Pandora internet radio and create a radio station that plays in the background and you will be surprised what comes up.

80s pop
Pet Shop Boys is classic 80s style techno music. This is slightly typical of their style, although not their best album.

Pretty forgettable
Without going through every single track I have played both cd's through a few times and even put it on random selection. This is far from Pet Shop Boys best work and this is why they are B-sides. There are a few tracks that are a good listen and also a few tracks that you just want to skip. Overall, it's okay and only avid Pet Shop Boys fans should buy.

Great b-sides compilation - and get the lenticular box release if you can!
Great music - yes a lot of their b-sides are as good as their a-sides, just need to get into them - and if you can get the lenticular box with booklet its an even tastier item. Although a lot of this material has appeared since, on Further Listening discs, this compilation spanning their career peak works really well.I'm not a huge PSB fan but this is a really strong release, and introduced me to material I would've otherwise passed by.
