Gefu 24210 1 mm Insert for Flotte Lotte, Silver

Got this to completely remove seeds from tomatoes and smaller seeded fruits and veggies with the Flotte Lotte Food Mill. I use the second smallest disc first to remove the skins and most tomato seeds, then change to the smaller disc to run the sauce through again removing all seeds. I first heat the tomatoes in a covered saucepan on medium heat (per Italian Cooking Author Marcella Hazan's directions) stirring a few times. This avoids the "poached taste" of completely cooking the fruit, yet softens the tomatoes enough to process with the medium disc and easily remove skins. After the disc processing, I make the sauce in an uncovered pan allowing it to cook and thicken through evaporation. This produces gives the freshest tasting sauce ever. So glad I found Flotte Lotte. The old cone and corkscrew crank method took forever. This is professional and perfect.

I love my GEFU Food Mill and how it strains my tomatoes and apples so easily. I purchased this fine disc and love how it works with berries and keeps the smaller seeds out of my raspberry jam. It is made of sturdy stainless steel and fits the food mill perfectly. I am looking forward to Spring and strawberry season and using this for jam again.

The product is well made and sturdy. I used it for Thanksgiving mashed potatoes and they turned out beautifully. Much more efficient than a ricer. It was also easy to assemble/disassemble, and clean. One thing to be mindful of is the small "scraper" that attaches to the bottom. I could see that going down my garbage disposal if I wasn't careful, or throwing it in the garbage inadvertently.

Like many I have had my mill for a decade or so but always wanted something like this. Maybe this was always available and the store I bought the mill from just didn’t carry it. I never thought to look for it online until recently. It fits the older mill perfectly and does the expected job. Now the downside is that it is a much lighter gage of metal and now made in china.
